Well I am salary. There is a reasonable expectation that I answer the phone for emergencies. This did constitute as one.

But yeah, I am a little miffed at the moment, though a friend of mine thinks it's absolutely hilarious. I may have considered to stabbing his eyeballs with a box cutter.

There's this guy that shows up at my metro every few months with a suit and a suitcase and just roams the sidewalks asking everyone he meets if they can "help him out of a jam". The first time I saw it I fell for it and gave him a few bucks. Figured, why not, it's only five bucks and sometimes shit happens. Now I've seen him come back at least three more times with the same line every time. This isn't a guy in a jam, it's a panhandler. I really resent him coming up to me again spouting the same bullshit as before. There is no jam to be gotten out of, and I resent being lied to.

I'm not above giving people a few bucks if they really need it. I've helped a few folks over the years scrape together enough change to pay their exit fares on the metro before, that sort of thing is fine. Lying to my face a second time after I gave you money the first time around is something else entirely.

There's a very clear memory I have of walking through D.C. when I was very young of a guy sitting on the side of the sidewalk with a cup full of change and a plastic bag. The man would shake the cup to rattle the change and chant as people walked by asking for spare change. I have a lot more respect for that poor bastard than the one who now makes the rounds at the metro.

many beggars are dishonest. There are quite a few who are actually supported very well, whether by family, government safety nets, or even actually having jobs. It's pretty common to hear of people with comfortable lives who beg as a way to make easy disposable income. And then those who are actually homeless are often that way by choice, preferring to have their vices rather than conform with society.

Not that those who are genuinely homeless and have run out of options shouldn't be shown sympathy, but the number of people exploiting that sympathy is huge.

I didn't watch back then ... but after 8 years of watching her on the show, (and shipping Tiva, can't even help it and I'm not even sorry), it actually stings quite a bit to see her leave.

I'm trying to be optimistic and think that they'll give her a good ending but ...

This whole Zimmerman thing has set one of my Facebook friends on overdrive. Reading her rant about it is starting to get a little tiresome.

The prosecution didn't do enough to prove their case. He will not be convicted of murder. He could get manslaughter, but I doubt he'll even get that. I saw recaps, and the prosecution's case was pretty laughable...

And as for the Zimmerman shit, we are already concerned for riots. Shit's gonna get ugly here. Then again, people don't seem to understand things like "burden of proof" and "beyond a reasonable doubt." Both of them were in the wrong, unfortunately, one of them lost their life because of it.

I think the worst thing about this person is that she is actually hoping for riots after this.

Of course, all of this stuff about Martin and Zimmerman actually got topped tonight. By one of my friends who (after I brought up the topic of my Facebook Friend who can't stop talking about it) had no idea who either of them were. She actually got her stories mixed up and thought Zimmerman was Snowden.
