Today I was working as Ops Manager instead of training for my new job because of a special deployment Boss Lady was to partake in. It gets canceled last minute, she goes with some of the guys to play with guns, and the rest of the guys decide to go to another property and start a whole bunch of shit. So one of our Operators is getting his ass purely handed to him on a silver fucking platter and I get called in to work literally just as I'm getting out of bed and I tell Boss Lady it'll be at least an hour just to spite her.

Can't wait for this shit to end.

In this day and age it is utterly unfathomable to me that someone could find faults in the graphics the big budget games produce. I've heard people ramble at length about how some truly beautiful AAA games "have bad graphics". It blows my mind. What the hell do you have to be smoking to think that anything released on the market today looks anything less than stunning?

I still can't decide if it's a peeve or not but I can usually tell if my oldest sister or my mother are currently single: they visit me with gifts of clothes or offer to take me clothes shopping because they no longer have guys that they can dress up or drag clothes shopping.

I get free clothes out of it sure but I still have no idea if I'm okay with it or not...

Not really a peeve, per se, well, maybe it is. My books for my classes are all en route (I've received one of seven) and my classes started today. One of the books I am borrowing from a friend, so waiting on him. The rest, all in transit from various places throughout the US.

Not much I can do with these online courses until they get here, so I really hope they do soon.

Electronic texts are substantially cheaper than traditional textbooks. You might look into whether getting and e-reader would be a good investment for you. You can't sell them back, obviously, but considering the pittance you can usually get for used books, you might still save money in the long run. And you don't have to wait for them to ship.

Yeah, I know that, just right now, I had to take out an employee loan at work just to afford the books, and by the end of the month I'm still going to be about $600 short of what I need to pay this month alone. I have no idea how to make it happen, either, so I am praying for this VA money to come through.

Have you applied for a Pell Grant, or has that ship sailed? I'm surprised that as a veteran you don't get more assistance. There are vets at my community college right now who are getting a free ride down to the scantrons.

I make too much for a Pell Grant, which is fucking laughable, the same as I make too much for food stamps and other such. Like Section 8 housing or welfare, or even assistance with my electricity bills.

I actually just posted a thread about my financial woes so anyone who cares can see how far it goes and try to help, but I'm really in a pickle right now.

Well it looks like I've got a dead hard drive on my hands. Luckily it was one of the media drives that I have set up to be mirrored, plus I backed it all up last week when issues started cropping up. It looks like what was happening was that Windows would try to boot and then it would hang trying to put together the software RAID on account of one of the drives being dead. Or at least that's my best approximation. Regardless, I'm going to have to go to Microcenter this week and pick up a new hard drive.

It irks me that I probably could have fixed this whole thing without reformatting, because it definitely started happening again after the reformat(by which point I'd bothered to check the drives' status) and unplugging the hard drives seemed to clear it up pretty thoroughly. I also suspect the fact they were constantly spinning up and then going idle again contributed some undue wear and tear, so I'll probably want to look into configuring it so that they're just constantly spinning when the machine is on. It should also keep games from lagging out every time I take a screenshot as it won't have to spin up from idle to save it.

Bleh, computers.
