Most kindle's sold here in the uk you buy with insurance. My father in law has had his replaced two times so far. Broken screen and a battery that just stopped working. Both instances we just returned it to the store and been handed a brand new one.
Nothing is built to last these days. I have a snes, megadrive even an old atari that still work. my 360 is temperamental as hell. I've never even played my 360 hardcore like some people it's probably done 200+hours in the 4ish years i had it, started to have problems with it and checked my receipt and i'm over the 3yrs. It's been in its box for about a year.
It just seems like too much of a hassle and convoluted operating procedure to even bother trying to replace it. If I remember correctly I have to pay and the cost of the repair I could just walk into a pawn shop and pick up one pre-owned by somebody that has fallen on hard times.
Since my 360 troubles, EVERY time I'm offered insurance on my electrical goods I take it out.
Not everything comes with 12 months warranty these days either. I love my H20 X5 steam mop when that broke I found out that the people that make them offer only 6 months guarantee and that the warranty being longer is down to where you buy it from. my replacement I got from ebay and that's insured and a 12 month guarantee from them.
These days nothing is built with longevity in mind, "buy it, break it, buy a new one" seems to be the way things go.

well, I'm not particularly angry, so I wouldn't really consider it venting. I'm just disappointed that one of the reliable, trustworthy online retailers, who had actually been better than brick and mortar shops, has for some reason decided to close themselves off to their customers, and not even cover their own products effectively. I'd also wanted to mention the issue; I'd never heard of Kindles having a screen defect until mine broke, at which point I see that it's happened to thousands of customers.
I didn't pay anything for the kindle (beyond buying a case), so I'm not very angry at the failure itself; it's the disappointment in Amazon for changing it's policies in such a clearly backwards manner.
I'm Jennifer Weber of Amazon.com's Executive Customer Relations team. Jeff Bezos received your e-mail and asked me to respond on his behalf.
It's very disappointing to us as well to hear your Kindle isn't working, but after reviewing the details of your account I can confirm the information and replacement option offered to you by our Kindle Support team was correct. While I know you're frustrated with our stance on this matter, I do hope you'll reconsider contacting our Kindle Support team (Amazon.com Help) and allow us to send you a replacement Kindle for the service fee offered.
I’m sorry for any disappointment caused and appreciate your understanding. While we won’t be able to comment further on this matter, we’re always happy to help if you have any other questions - you can click a button to contact us by e-mail or phone from any Help page on our website.

so the good news here is, they closed the ecr@amazon.com address, but you can still email the CEO and get referred to ECR. Note that the "service fee offered" means "buy a new kindle".
Not sure what to think here. Definitely ruined the opinion I had of the kindle brand, to find out they have such a common design flaw and only take responsibility for it if they have to. Also shakes very deeply my confidence in Amazon's customer service; if they won't take responsibility for a flaw in their own product, it's hard to imagine they're going to continue to take responsibility for any issues with orders that aren't theirs, especially with the kindle and it's market being Amazon's baby. If they don't even care about keeping consumers happy with that, it makes it hard to imagine the rest of the site is going to hold up much better.
I dunno, it's been a long time since I've bought anything off Amazon anyway, for obvious reasons. The kindle brand at least has definitely lost a customer; and I was thinking about getting a few of them as gifts for others too. Especially with a device like Kindle, where the real money is in the market, you would think companies would be more willing to take responsiblity and keep customers, rather than leave them out and damage their brand loyalty for years. Cable companies and airlines, maybe consumers don't have much choice; but digital media and electronic devices?
where? if its in the bathroom, you got any ventilation in their? You can buy off the shelf some mold remover liquid that you can paint on and it gets rid of that, failure that, rub it with a thick pad with bleech on but please wear rubber gloves.
I do have a small window in the bathroom which I have started leaving open to keep my place aired out. But it's in my bedroom closet. I have a few pairs of shoes (that luckily, I rarely wear) that have the mold on them and it's pretty gross. I'm going through and checking the rest of my apartment but I think that's all of it.
I think 409 will kill it, right? I kill everything with 409. Cockroach? 409. Lizard? 409. Spider? FOUR OH NINE.

I think I can understand. My Nexus 7 is one of the greatest things I own and I love it to death. If it were to suddenly break for whatever reason I'd be more than pissed at Google.
I can't speak to the effectiveness of their anti-virus stuff, but some of the more niche software I'm having to work with this week is just downright frustrating.
Kasperksy labs has been good for me for last 5 years.
I find this amusing on the Thatcher issue - "Ding Dong the witch is dead" is currently in the top 5 of the Uk chart for sales/downloads this week the offical chart company is debating whether to allow it to be counted or not in the official top 40 this sunday!

The irony is is that Margaret Thatcher was extremely anti-censorship (unlike the current Government that edits anything negative about the party, or something that would contradict what a Cabinet Minister said on Wikipedia in an almost Orwellian fashion. I seriously wish i was making this shit up) and would HATE the fact that the song is being censored. She also wouldn't give a crap about the song being Number 1 and would see the humour in it.
Conservatives will always be idiots even when it comes to their own leaders.
