Day 1 of quitting soda cold turkey: I have a headache and having trouble focusing. Probably shouldn't have chosen a work day for this.

On a more serious note, I've never had to get off of soda before, so I don't know what'd help. I don't know if the things that I did to get off of certain foods would help either, namely find a healthier substitute and keep on cutting back on portion sizing.

I don't know if it'd help, but besides lots of water what about tea? Or if you have access to a good cidery, then there's always that option.

Quitting cold turkey sounds unnecessarily painful. Why not just lower your intake gradually?

I started at limited myself to one soda a day.

Now I have only one a week, if even that.

Not quite the same but there are withdrawal symptoms.

I quit cold turkey because having it in the house is too tempting.

I'm pretty sure caffeine is addictive, so it isn't surprising that you'd experience withdrawal symptoms.

If the goal is to simply stop drinking soda then you might want to add some alternative source of caffeine in there so you don't go nuts. If you're not a coffee person then maybe try tea.

My coworker brought the issue up one day and I did the math. To get the same amount of caffeine as a 64 oz Big Gulp of Mountain Dew you'd need to drink roughly 67 oz of green tea. So just substitute tea for soda and you're good to go basically.

Well I was only drinking two a day for quite some time. I had gone to the dentist and due to needing just over 11k in dental care/repairs, (and the fact that the taxes this year have really hurt my paychecks and I could use the extra money), I made the decision to just cut it.

I seem to be doing all right. After a few months I figure I should be able to go out to dinner and have a soda here and there, that's more of the goal. It can become more like a treat instead of a necessity.

Ah, healthcare...

I just gotta say. Horizon Advantage EPO blows. I'm trying to find a counselor of some sort. Only 3 behavioral health specialists take my insurance within a 50 mile radius.
