IT guys would get more respect if they dropped out of the foamboard ceilings hanging by a CAT5 like Spiderman. That's how little respect IT guys get as it is.

IT guys will get more respect as soon as more people start attributing the fact that the vast majority of computer issues are in some way down to the end user's own idiocy.

I'm not bitter or anything but when I used to work as an IT guy, I could count the number of times I would have to come out to check a computer and find out it's an actual problem, and not someone not knowing how to use a computer or someone fucking up the computer themselves per month on two fingers.

There is a reason why "working as intended" is used often in the IT world. It's IT guy code for any number of of the below phrases:

"Learn how to use a computer."
"It's your own fault for disabling the firewalls."
"I'm not coming all the way upstairs to hit ctrl+F5 for you."
"I'm not coming all the way upstairs to hit ctrl+P for you."
"I'm not coming all the way upstairs to change the toner or clear a paper jam, that's the admin's job and besides, he's the only one with keys. If he's on lunch, wait for him to get back. If he says no, start treating him like a human being."
"It really is working as intended to spite people who treat IT like shit."
"Read the fucking manual."
"I know it's broken but it's a bug that isn't easily reproduced and we're working on a workaround because it's not a high priority bug that will break the internet and cause the end of the world."
"No I'm not allowing your mobile phone access to the wireless network, use your own mobile internet until you learn to ask politely and start treating the IT department like human beings."
"No I'm not unblocking Facebook so you can stalk your employees."
"Fuck off."

There was also a very good reason why I would always answer every phone call with "Hello IT, have you tried turning it off and on again?"

I fall hard for people. For me, it's not sunshine and butterflies. It's being cast into the abyss tied to a cement block.

Also, work is getting stressful since I'm doing my work and my supervisor's work. But that has been a constant since the beginning of September so, by now, I'm pretty used to it. It's been particularly bad the last few weeks due to the new tradition of an annual Halloween natural disaster.

One of my IT guys is a total nerd, into D&D, MMOs, Renaissance Faires, etc.

The other one is so anal-retentive it makes my head spin, and this is coming from someone who is self-proclaimed anal-retentive and extremely concerned with detail to the point that I spend twice as long on something as I should.

They're both pretty cool though, IMO. I guess it's because I'm also a nerd and I also understand general computer workings, so I can have an intelligent conversation with either of them. I spent about twenty minutes one day telling the second IT guy about the website I'd designed for my kids about 5 years ago written entirely in HTML with tables - and since I disliked the default table border style, I created my own borders by adding additional table rows and columns to style the borders to my liking; and while in progress, continued to beta-test it across three different browsers. He was impressed with that level of obsessive-compulsiveness and attention to detail; to the point where he asked me why it was that I even work where I work.

It was an interesting conversation.

Basically yes. They gave me some stuff to put in it to help it heal faster, but I pretty much just have to keep the eye closed and wait for it to get better over the next three to five days and in the meantime it sucks.

This is so much worse than descending from the ceiling tiles on cat5 cables.
