The chemical in wasabi that provides for its initial pungency is the volatile allyl isothiocyanate, which is produced by hydrolysis of natural rhizome thioglucosides (conjugates of the sugar glucose, and sulfur-containing organic compounds); the hydrolysis reaction is catalyzed by myrosinase and occurs when the enzyme is released on cell rupture caused by maceration — e.g., grating — of the plant's rhizome.
The unique flavor of wasabi is a result of complex chemical mixtures from the broken cells of the rhizome, including those resulting from the hydrolysis of thioglucosides into glucose and methylthioalkyl isothiocyanates:
6-methylthiohexyl isothiocyanate,
7-methylthioheptyl isothiocyanate, and
8-methylthiooctyl isothiocyanate.
I'm a lightweight when it comes to spicy foods and I have no interest in changing that. The spectrum of culinary agony available to me in the 0-50,000 Scoville range is quite sufficient, thank you.
I'm not really even affected by the how spicy wasabi is, its just too bitter. I'd rather eat handfuls of salt than have a dab of wasabi near anything.

Also, YE GODS, some of these ad Hulu throws at you are not calibrated properly for audio. I thought Hulu Plus was supposed to be ad-free, but apparently only for certain shows. At any rate, I've had these overload my speakers on my laptop and TV because the audio was made way too loud. Absolutely cancelling this shit Sunday and muting commercials as they come.
The UN does a ton of good. It doesn't, and shouldn't, have a military; it is not the world police, or the world court, or anything else. The UN IS a forum for nations to speak to each other without violence, and to work in tandem to support weaker countries, and deal with global issues.
That wasn't the point I was making and I never for one moment said that the humanitarian efforts of the UN don't do any good.
My point is: pick a conflict zone or country with a brutal dictator that massacres it's own people where the UN is actually helping to solve the problem rather becoming part of the problem. Syria is just the one that the media is focused on at this moment in time.
Everyone can say "Oh you can't do that!" but when it comes to actually taking action and actually trying to solve a problem, it just seems they are completely and utterly unwilling to sit there and say "We're angry!".
It seems that world leaders just can't seem to find the right time to say "Fuck what the security council says (because let's face it, vetoes are only ever used for political reasons and have nothing to do with moral or ethical issues), we should be taking action." Whether it is economic pressure political pressure (lol) or yes military pressure.
I am continually disappointed by the amount of novel content my frequently visited sites and social networks generate for me. I am aware this is because I am a) doing it wrong, b) a huge tool, or c) both a) and b).
I went through 2-3 Teddy Ruxpins when I was a kid. Cassette players aren't meant to be drug around like teddy bears. I watched the TV show religiously, too. I wish I could find it again online somewhere.
