My dad's like 5'4". When he was in the army a good 30ish years ago, everyone assumed that if you pissed him off he'd pull out a knife and stab you. Funny how that hasn't changed.
Yea, I'm not sure where it began, but I think the media took it and ran with it for a while. Some of the other stereotypes, that seem to hold some truth to them, are that Hispanics begin having children around the age of seventeen, and continue to have many many children. I just assumed these were cultural norms.

My mom is one of seven siblings, but she grew up in a poor neighborhood in a rural area. My dad only has two sisters and his father was a doctor. I've never thought of this as a latino thing though, more of a "country" thing. Don't farmers or people that live in rural areas tend to have bigger families in the US?

Not especially. Before modern machinery, it was important to have a stock of children to perform the multitude of farm tasks, and a few extra on stand-by if one or two didn't survive the winter. Nowadays, children are money sinks and, depending on the crop, a farmer can perform most of his/her duties solo.
I think large families are ideal, for no other reason than I enjoy family, but that becomes a rarer sight as you climb the income brackets.
The following exchange just happaned between myself and a few of the managers here at work. Tell me if I'm wrong. I'll write it all verbatum because 90% of it occurred via Outlook communicator messages.
*Yyg arrives at work early by 10 minutes*
*Sends an outlook message to his boss boss (the station manager)*
Yyg: Hey, have you had a chance to draft me up that reccomendation that you said you would make time for? I don't mean to be a bother, I just don't want to miss the deadline to submit it.
Big Boss: (Manager X) is upset with you. He says that your online certification courses are incomplete and that your email inbox is full. You need to take care of that now.
Yyg: Ok. I'll empty the e-mail... but I know I've got all the certs finished because I finished them all on Friday. I know this because I swapped to cover (Coworker's) shift this past sunday... and that would have been denied if I had any outstanding courses to complete. If there's anything, it must have shown up either today or yesterday. I'll check.
Big Boss: No. They're from a while back.
*Yyg checks the webpage for cert completion and finds one submitted yesterday. Completes it*
*Yyg gets a phone call from (Manager X) telling him the exact same things as Big Boss did*
Yyg: Yeah, Big boss just informed me of the same thing and I'm checking on it now. It says on the site that I've got everything up to date besides the one that came out yesterday. Would you doublecheck for me and let me know if there's something I'm not seeing?
Manager X: Nope. I'm seeing the same thing. You're all set. Thanks. Just when you get into your email would you empty it out. I wasn't able to send you the info for today because it's full.
Yyg: No sweat.
*Yyg goes back to messaging big boss*
Yyg: I just spoke with (Manager X) and squared everything away. Turns out I was complete and that the only one in the system was the one that came in from yesterday. I'm emptying the email now. You had me worried that I wasnt seeing something.
*(Manager Y: Big Boss' Lap Dog) storms into my office, slams the door and window to the hallway shut*
Manager Y: Next time someone tells you that someone else is pissed off at you, don't call them and complain about it!
Yyg: You mean (Manager X)? He called me.
Manager Y: Well why did you tell him that Big Boss he was pissed off at you?!?
Yyg: I didn't. All I told him was that Big Boss had informed me of the same exact thing as he was and that I was taking care of it. I asked him to clarify and see if there was something I missed while I had him on the phone.
Manager Y: Just do you job and dont backtalk to Big Boss again!
*(Manager Y) slams the door behind him*
*Yyg sends a message to Manager Y*
-I'm confused by the level of hostility that you just brought in here. I didn't do anything wrong. I've had all my courses complete on time every time... and the email just became overloaded today. That's been handled. I wish you wouldn't just naturally assume I've done something unforgivable and talk to me before coming in here with wild accusations based on assumptions and making a scene in front of the other agents.
*(Manager Y) storms back into my office, asks my co-worker to take over and ushers me to his office where he proceeds to tell me that I need to stop backtalking and being unreasonable and (*insert long speech about "keep your head down and mouth shut" here)*
Manager Y: Any questions for me? Anything you'd like to say?
Yyg: Nope.
Manager Y: Nothing?
Yyg: Saying anything in this place only invites trouble. I'm going to keep my head down and my mouth shut from now on, as suggested.
Yes. Manager Y is a jerk off. I'm guessing they are older, and won't amount to another other managerial position than the one they currently hold. Everyone probably knows manager Y is a jerk off, but they've worked in that position longer than most, and they probably aren't going anywhere. Sucks, but the least amount of contact you can have with manager Y the better. The other managers should already know about manager Y, and as long as you keep your nose clean and keep out working everyone, the other managers will take notice, and manager Y is obsolete.
Manager Y stormed in as a representative of Big Boss.
Manager Y would not have been privy to the outlook messages between myself and Big Boss unless Big Boss showed him... and then sent him to attack me.
Just to clarify.

Additionally. My original question was completely ignored... and having that reccomendation in hand is on a strict deadline.
How the fuck do I approach someone to write me something nice for a future job if they don't even realize that they're blaming me for something that never happened... and then fuming over it.
Yelling and slamming doors is unprofessional. Period. There's absolutely no excuse for that kind of hostility in the workplace.
The complaints leveled at you were also kind of bullshit since nothing you said is anything I'd remotely consider "talking back". You were just following up on stuff and making sure everything got sorted out properly so that everyone would be happy. When asked to take action to resolve part of the issue, you did so and were gracious about it. Then you get rewarded with a manager having a temper tantrum.
The only rational explination that I can think of is this:
Big Boss is deflecting my question because of some personal vendetta against me. They can see that I have an unknown number of courses to complete and decide to tell me that the manager in charge of that operation (Manager X) is pissed that I haven't done them.
I assume that Manager X was never pissed in the first place... considering the jovial chat we had on the phone didn't suggest that he was angry about anything.
If he were never pissed in the first place, Big Boss might have gotten self conscious when I told her that "I just spoke to Manager X and worked it out", I had also informed him that "Big Boss said you're pissed".
Catching her in a lie and making her look like a jackass would probably have justified her sending Manager Y in to rough me up... hence the false accusations and wild assumptions.
Once disproved... she still looks like a jackass... just not to Manager X... but to me. That would help to explain the hostility when I was brought into the office. My little talk with Manager Y probably wasn't a reprimanding at all... but a warning.
Normally, being talked to in the office the way I just was would also result in being put on a level (effectively the 3 strike rule). That didn't happen this time... despite the hostility... leading me to believe that they know just as well as I did that I've done nothing wrong and that they have nothing they could hold against me.
