Pet Peeve: 800-Service Telephone calls, I get them at rude hours of the evenings when I am trying to sleep. I've turned off my phone for maybe a month, checked my missed calls on the computer, 136 missed calls.

You should keep a log of the numbers and record the number of times a given number calls you as well as the time of day it's occurring.

(The following advice is assuming your in the US)

According to US federal law, any solicitation phone calls made to a private residence are required to follow certain guidelines or otherwise be considered harassment. They are required to only call you during times that would be deemed as reasonable hours for your time zone (between 9am-7pm typically). They are also required to stop calling you if you specifically tell them to.

A violation of either of these rules, especially if it's a recurring problem is open for a lawsuit on grounds of harassment.

However... it's important to note that in order to have any kind of a case at all, you have to have told them to stop. Record your own call with them if you need to as proof. Get a copy of your phone bill with an itemized and time stamped list of calls to prove the hours and origins of the calls.

You have to have made a reasonable effort to get them to stop and they must have CONTINUED after being told to stop for you to have any kind of argument against them.

That's the thing. I've told them to stop and the calls keep on coming. I went and called my cable company. Since I use a combo package of Phone/Internet/Cable from their services and I guess other customers have had the same issue with the 800-Service callers as well. There is a "12" number list that I can put individual numbers on to stop them from calling but the 800-Service change their numbers so often I just can't keep up, also do you know any way to record a phone call, I was never one to figure this out.

My next step is going onto the National "Do Not Call" list and see if that will work, if it doesn't then I will prosecute. It's frustrating when at like almost near 9:00 at night my phone is ringing because these idiots want to sell me their junk.

Take a look at this, the people have complained to the company to do something about it. There is also a method through the browser to screen all calls, but I'm not sure if that will like block my mother/friends from getting a hold of me. I've never had this problem until I signed up with this company.

Really hit bottom today. I've been emotionally unstable for weeks, but last night I had a fight with my wife that just sent me spiraling. I spent the last three hours just laying on the ground outside coming up with ways to kill myself without leaving a scene and a mess for my family to clean up. It's probably been a decade since the last time I seriously thought about suicide.

If your cable/internet/phone are linked, you can set your computer up to receive your calls and use recording software to keep records. Even if the phone numbers themselves change, the company that they originate from shouldn't. Say that company X sells... idk... insurance and the number comes up as 1-800-buymyshit and then next time as 1-800-yunobuymyshit. It still originates from the came company... but generally just from a different line. Regardless, the parent company is responsible for halting all calls to you if you explicitly ask them not to contact you further.

You have no supportive friends to you know talk things out with? That sounds like something very serious. I'm actually glad you came on the forum and told us. I'm not the best with advice but I'd say give yourself some space from your wife if things are getting that out of hand? Are you stressed from work? A lost loved one?

I really don't want to hop on the "Lets give out advise that we can't follow ourselves" train so I'll spare you the "Soup for Thought" cliches.

The fact of the matter is that although I don't know you all that well, I still count you among my closest friends. Shit... that speaks worlds about my social life now doesn't it? Either way... I would never want to see harm come to you, man. Least of all self inflicted harm.

Laying down on the dirt outside is a rather unique vantage point to reflect on ones life, however. For that I give you kudos.

I've dealt with enough people in my life threatening their own lives purely for attention. I'm sick of it. You on the other hand. I've never thought of you as a "Pity Party" kinda guy... so weather you intended it or not, I'm taking you seriously.

I fly for free bitch. If you go thinking those kinds of thoughts about yourself again, I'm going to be on a plane out there to beat you to death first. And God help me... I hate Texas.
