You think it's the Motherboard too, don't you? Fuck. I was afraid of that. What a crock of shit. It goes to windows log-in for 20 seconds to mock me and then freeze.
That's the weird thing. When I booted it the first time, I never saw the BIOS once. The monitor was blacked out and eventually just SPAWNED the Windows sign-in screen.
The first time I ever noticed something was wrong was when it froze while I typed my password.

I checked all my connections... but the monitors keeps displaying "no signal".
The only thing I can think is thatmy video card is somehow loose or not plugged in correctly.
I tried turning my speakers up to see if I could hear anything at all that would indicate that something was going on that I simply couldn't see. Nothing. Then I remembered that the first sound I hear is when I ACTUALLY log in past the password screen.

I would already be ordering a new Motherboard right now if it weren't for that split second I had windows up. At least for a few moments, everything was working perfectly fine. I just need to get back to THERE.
Ok, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume you normally see the BIOS screen when booting and were thus able to notice its absence(some mobos have options to make the BIOS readout extremely brief rather than the normal verbose settings).
Other thing: if your RAM uses DIMM(dual in-line memory modules) you're probably adding to the problems by only using one stick at a time. Use two sticks in the proper slots.
Only other thing I can think of to tell you at this point is to try swapping out each component to see if the situation changes. But with the BIOS not showing up my gut feeling is that your motherboard is toast.

Yeah, double check your video card. I've had more than one occasion where I panicked over a video card that just needed to be re-seated.
but but but... the monitors are plugged into the video card. If it's the video card... maybe it's not the motherboard? Maybe it's just a loose connection.
I. HATE. MOTHERBOARD. SHOPPING.

The thing leading me to believe it's the video card is that my motherboard isn't smelling funny like it would if it were fried. I've smelled it before... it's terribad.
I'll try to re-seat the video card when I get home and pray. The fact that the monitors are indicating that I don't have any signal is actually a positive thing in my eyes. If that didn't show up and all I was getting was a black screen... then I would be scared.
Motherboards can be toasted without any melting smell. I should know, I tend to kill a motherboard every time I've built a new PC. You just run some power through it when there are connections where there shouldn't be and it silently dies without giving any olfactory indication.
But yeah, definitely check that the video card is plugged in properly, because that is a thing that happens.
I just checked it out and as luck would have it... my mobo is out of production. Great. Now I have to find one comparable with my current processor. Thankfully I have a quad core DDR3. When I built the rig... that was beyond top of the line... now it's pretty much standard. Hopefully I can find a moderately priced replacement if I need to.

Choices are limited... lemme tell ya.
If I have to change the mobo... I just might fucking overhaul the damn thing and get a new proc while I'm at it. I have my eye on the Asus Sabertooth anyway. Pair it with a FX-8150 AMD 8 Core and crossfire that shit.
I called my buddy Adam to come over to my place and have a look. Between the 2 of us, there's nothing we can't fix. I usually only ever lean on him when I've exhausted all other options.
Since my OP, he's arrived at my place and torn every piece out of it and started running diagnostics.
It's not the mobo apparently. He was able to bring up the BIOS just fine once he swapped out his ram for mine and his vid card for mine.
He performed a full system recovery and rebooted windows. Now he's slowly re-introducing my RAM in place of his. After that, He'll be switching out his vid card for mine.
Funny enough, for a short time, my system wasn't recognizing that I had a HD or any disc drives. There were about 30 seconds where he was convinced he had broken my HD.
I've even asked him to clean everything for me... so I'm gunna has a sparkly interior case!
Fingers crossed that he can get it up and running. I'm giving him my old 22' HD monitor if he can successfully fix it. Not much of a reward really considering it originally belonged to him in the first place. XD
I would think the difference in control scheme alone would make for a pretty big gap in the game design when porting. Mouse and keyboard tends to be a very different input experience than a controller. When you start out designing for one and not the other I'd imagine you make different design choices accordingly and that can ultimately make the game ill-suited to make the jump. Clearly it can be done, as there are a fair number of games that have pulled it off successfully, but there's also plenty of games that have just turned out to be an absolute pile of ass when ported to the PC.
Controls are one of my BIGGEST peeves. You should know what's important in a game by what keys do what. Let's take a shooter for example: WASD for movement, Shift to run, Ctrl to crouch, Space bar to jump, and R to reload are the basics. I think Shift, Ctrl, and the Space bar are the biggest indicators of what's important. In Skyrim, what does Shift do? Instead of running, it actually makes you walk more slowly. IN WHAT SITUATION WOULD THAT EVER BE USEFUL IN? In Rage, crouching is C and melee attacks are V. I can only guess that, because of their placement, they're largely useless, but they're actually extremely useful and make for a very awkward game.
