I'm not really even assuming the guy who said it is American (well...I am, but I'm not going to make accusations of Americans being racist because, for better or worse, I'm American).

The "Ching" talk gets me more though because one of the earliest instances of somebody making fun of my ethnicity was in elementary school. On the school bus, an upperclassman girl would refer to me as "Ching Chong Chang". It would've been too easy to assume it was a Caucasian girl, but it wasn't. I distinctly remember she had darker skin, more like Indian or Pakistanian. Go figure...

Pet peeve I had recently (until Dell thankfully released me) was this one black kid I worked with named Kendre. I worked with a lot of people of different races at Dell and everyone was pretty nice to each other. We were all in it together anyway, despite creed or color we were all unified in the fact we hated working at Dell. Everyone they recently laid off is actually pretty happy about it.

But this kid would never shut up about his outside life or the woes of being black. He was actually one of those nerdy kids that latches on to you and never goes away and never shuts up. Never. Just keeps running his damn mouth.

And Kendre (or "Dre" has it liked to be called) would always come to my table at lunch, too. I liked to talk games to this other guy. I'm white, he's korean and here comes the black kid to tell us how hard it is being a young black man. Like he's the only one that's got problems. There were plenty of other blacks he could have dumped this on, but they didn't like him either, so it had to be us. Either it was about him being black or paranoid about his Lexus.

I have a sports car, I have some light anxiety about it at times - particularly when the neighbor's kids skateboard and try to trick near it - but for him it was some kind of complex. He'd go on for 45 minutes about the damn car. Whole lunch breaks about his car.

Oh, and then there was some really funny shit. He'd always catch himself on the "n" word around me. You know, like I never hear it from a black guy. I've seen the Chris Rock distinction made, I know what you're getting at. White people have a version, we call them "rednecks."

Or when he wouldn't just say it was a black thing outright, he'd try to dance around it, so I would just complete the thought for him, "because 'X; is not black." The Korean guy thought it was hilarious.

Then there was this guy from Kenya named John. Off-the-boat as can be, but nice guy all-around. I have a certain talent with being able to understand people with all manner of accents. This guy had been taught British English as a second language, so he tends to exhibit the foibles that come with that while still having a Kenyan accent.

Kendre could not work with him, it was like he met a space alien. Other black people in the plant were fairly friendly to Africans, Jamacans and Dominicans. Didn't get it.

Then again, I didn't exactly bond with the German guy down in shipping and I'm part German. He was just really stand-offish. I actually understood John better than that guy, too.

I just never like people that make a big to-do about who they are. I can get along with just about anyone else you pair me with at a job, but there were honestly times I wanted to clock Kendre. This particular part of the south is a massive melting pot, most of us just get along and don't make a big deal about race.

The people who are racists in this area are very, very isolated and even in rural areas they're pretty far out there from the rest. Actually kinda pisses me off when I hear "the south is full of racists" thing.

There was this one time an old man in my town approached me for a ride home, he was stranded and his car broke down and just wanted a ride home until his daughter could help him get things resolved with the car. That and his granddaughter was about to be dropped off from school, he didn't want her to be alone.

He was pretty damn old and if he was trying to pull something, I figured I could take him, so I just took him at his word.

So I oblige (the only time I ever have to something like that) and give him ride. As we move along he talks old man talk, how things are now, how things were, what's changed and how the weather is. Then as we get closer to his home he talks about how he doesn't like "them mexicans" because one of his daughters fell for one and he'd shoot him if they were ever messing around near his property. Classy.

Then he just casually interjects that he's in the KKK. You know, like donning white sheets is just a normal thing to do outside of Halloween. I would have kicked him out of my car were we not already pulling into his driveway. I'm sure he has a blast with the other two KKK buddies he has. Glad they'll die of old age soon.

That was a funny story, and reminds me of something a little closer to FFXI (which makes me wonder if I should put it here or in the other thread).

There was this guy I knew in FFXI who is gay. He has stated several times that he wishes people wouldn't identify that as his only quality. Yet, sit with him for a few minutes, and that is literally all he talks about. He would go around Jeuno (this was before ToAU) doing emotes like "slaps <insert male player>'s fanny".

He was also big into endgame. And as we all know, endgame is pretty prone to drama. Every time somebody (or some LS) had a problem with him, he would always say it was because they are homophobic. He once called for help on Vrtra just to spite somebody. I can't imagine why anybody would have a problem with him!

This made me lol for some reason. It is sad that we have an african-american president and people are still crying that they have it rough just because of their skin color. Sometimes the stupidity of people in my own race burns me up.

At least he has a Lexus lol, wtf was he paranoid of. If he is paranoid, he should've bought a domestic car instead.

Also something similar to what Ketaru posted: One of our ls members was a gay vegan. He'd ramble on about being gay if you got him started, however don't try to tell him how good meat was, he'd argue you into the ground. We got this one new dude in the linkshell who claimed to be gay, and he'd just piss the other guy off because he was wayyyyy too open about it. Eventually he made a remark about meat, and WW3 happened. We ended up having to kick the new guy out of the linkshell because he didn't know how to act. However, it was just funny to me to see somebody else get on his nerves.

I miss our linkshell, it was bi-racial, bi-sexual, gay, and straight. I just hate that the linkshell kinda fizzled out because I don't want to get in a new shell and go through the whole "OMG Dura's Black!!!!?" thing again. Too much stupidity for my mind to take anymore.

As in, in a single day. So you know, you can always look forward to them REALLY fucking up the company.

It really wouldn't surprise me if in less than three years Dell curled up and died. The way they ran things here, I have to assume they lost lots of money in the process.

I mean, working your people to death isn't a recipe for success in manufacturing. Works in Mexico, maybe, but in America not so much.

They could have people working 12 hour shifts alternating three or four days a week on A/B style shifts, kept the plant open 24/7, saved money, employed more people and had happy employees at that.

Then again, they are moving this operation to Mexico, so clearly they like the "hemmoraging money" model a lot more. If they can fuck up here, they can fuck up in Mexico, too.
