Car shopping makes me want to punch a baby. Well, the shopping is fun. Going to the dealerships is considerably less so. My father was in automotive sales and finance his entire life, and I even spent an ill-fated two weeks attempting to sell cars myself. I know what to expect. I think that's why I get so irritated with salesmen when they try their particular brand of bullshit on me.

I'm about a week away from pulling the trigger on a new (to me) car, though. I just can't take car pooling anymore, as the person I ride with is just too damned unreliable.

To clarify, I would not generally buy a new car, but I've been frustrated by the selection of used cars that I actually like in my area right now. The pool is small, so I may have to go new in order to get something I actually want. But ideally, something 2-3 years old with less than 50k miles. I'm so tired of looking at car spec pages by now.

If you were in Florida I would hook you up with the guy who sold me mine. I got a pretty good deal and I've known the guy about 12 years so I knew he wasn't going to fuck me over. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone up your way. :/

I don't know squat about buying a new car. Yet, because I lost reverse, I'm on the look as well. I don't know any of the tricks. I don't know anyone who works/ed in the industry. I'm thinking of getting my first new car. I've only ever bought a couple of used Nissan Sentras up until now. I'm convincing myself to get a 2012 Subaru Impreza. I'd settle for a Impreza 2-3 years old with less than 50k on it at a reasonable price ... but I don't really see used Subarus with that low of a mileage at a reasonable price. Makes more sense just to pony up for a brand new one, unfortunately. I've been trolling the interwebz looking at nearby dealers. I wish I could drive around to different dealerships but I have a feeling where ever I next take my Sentra is where it's going to have to stay =/

If you want to go for a scooby, may I suggest you looking at Mitubishi Evo's as well, they are better than scoobies and I think around the same or slightly cheaper in price.

Actually looking into Mitsubishi Evo's ... they seem to be a bit more expensive than an Impreza. But, always good to look around.

If your looking into the european cars then may i suggest you also looking into BMW M3, Audi RX4 or RX6, cheaper cars but with plenty of sports pedigree though a little smaller Ford focus RS, Golf GTI sport, Mini Cooper R.

A Beamer?!?!? Yeah, I wish I could afford one of those. WAY out of my range.

I'm really leaning for the Soobie cuz of the AWD. I drive the passes up here quite a lot. Was looking at the Ford Focus. Sounds like a pretty decent buy... Just the affordable AWD on Soobies really tempts me. I live in the Pacific NW and have to travel the passes to visit home... AWD would be awesome.

Work has been dreadful, by the way. They keep changing my schedule. Which I loathe. I am nearly 34 (two weeks!). I like consistency. And my car pool driver quit today. She couldn't take the bullshit this place dishes out anymore. So I have to figure out how to get to and from work for the next four days until I visit the dealership. I'm looking as well, actually. While I don't mind the work, I am not a fan of my employer. They are just too freaking disorganized. But after all the work it took to find this job, I'll be damned if I go anywhere before I have another position.
