Idk if it's a petpeeve... but my 97' Nissan Sentra's (100k miles) transmission is going out. I no longer have 'reverse'. I don't think I can afford much at this point and trading it in now I'm not gonna get much if anything. Idk... god-damn cars!!!

I had to fix the tranny on my old truck a few years ago, it did the same thing to me - refused to go in reverse. Cost me $1500 but still a hell of a lot less than a brand new vehicle. Same year, as well, but the truck was only 9 years old when I fixed mine.

A lot of places will take anything for trade. My old beast had no brakes at all and a completely rusted undercarriage, 216k miles on it, was 14 years old, and I still got $2500 for it in trade. I didn't think I could afford a vehicle but I make it work.


My peeve is my internet. Past several days now I've been having intermittent disconnects and of course Verizon can't find anything wrong with it. They are sending me a new router tomorrow though, so if that doesn't fix the problem I don't fucking know what I'm going to do. Except go on a killing spree maybe.

My '93 Eagle Vision, rest her soul, had three different transmission over her lifetime. That bitch ate them like cereal.

Well, I guess there's hope. I've thought of just replacing the tranny... I just don't know if I can justify spending $1500-$2000 on a car that's at most bluebooks at $1700... and mine is most likely worth way less than that.

Does it otherwise run fine? Are there structural problems? Does it need any other major work?

For me, it was easy to justify because everything else on the truck worked fine at that moment, and it was at least a year before I needed to replace something else. I was lucky. But in the long run it ended up being a lot cheaper than purchasing new - my truck lasted another five years. I finally caved and bought my new truck when my repairs started averaging close to what a monthly truck payment would be.

The front bumper-cap (plastic part covering the metal bumper) was torn off when someone took a corner too sharp and the driver's side turn signal was busted out (bulb still works). I have no passenger side mirror anymore. Some of the interior lighting doesn't work either. There is a idle malfunction happening as well. The engine mounts are shot too. The transmission is the major thing but it's got it's fare share of badness.

It seriously may be time to look into trading it in, you can probably get a car about five years old somewhere in the 10-12k range, maybe less. (I bought a truck so it was more and I was never looking at cars as an option so I have no earthly idea of the real cost.) You can finance for like $150 a month or less I'd bet.

If you were in Florida I'd recommend a friend, he sold me my truck and I got a pretty good deal.

I'm looking... After my last two cars (both used Sentras) I am looking into trying to buy something newer. I'm thinking of 2010 and up... and I'm looking at Subaru... possibly an Impreza... but idk. This is all hitting me at a really bad time.
