Damn, sorry to hear! I know how you feel. I got into an rear-end collision accident by a uninsured motorist(most likely) who ran off while we decided to pull over to the side of road so we don't cause any traffic.. it was on Xmas eve... Blew 1000$ out of my pocket while my own insurance covered rest of the bill. Important lesson i learned was, take a quick snap shot of other guy's plate as soon as you get out of the car.
