You know better than to say this, if you haven't forgotten. Unless you mean one's wife as opposed to my wife.

I wouldn't go so far as to say monogamy doesn't work. It has been argued that biologically we're not made for it, but humans are more complex than their biology and different things work for different people. Just because one system or the other hasn't worked for you in the past doesn't mean it couldn't work for other people or even for yourself with a different partner or a different attitude.

Well I should rephrase, perhaps. I think a good portion of the population is not built for monogamy. Many are. Problems arise when you have a monogamous (at heart) person with a polygamous (at heart) person. That leads to incompatibility, which is the real problem in the first place.

Some people certainly are built for long-term monogamy. Some are built for shorter-term monogamy. Some are not built for monogamy at all. The problem is, everyone seems to have this warped perception that all people should strive for a single, long-term monogamous relationship, when not all people can sustain that. And it's in their nature.

I just think the problem nowadays is the perception that if you have several relationships then you're doing something wrong. If you and your partner(s) are happy, then who cares?
