Thing is, her being a tomboy doesn't exactly mean she's into anime or video games. Sometimes its just watching sports and athletic pursuits.

And "gamer girls" aren't always tomboys. Or anime fans. That last girl I dated? Girly gamer girl. She'd scream like a girl at a Beatles concert if you gave her a new Halo game, but otherwise she was a self-conscious, self-important, needy, do-i-look-fat-in-this-dress, put-down-the-controller-and-look-at-me girl.

In any event no matter the woman, if she asks "Do you think X Girl looks pretty?"



The correct answers are:

- Who?
- I don't see who you're talking about.
- I don't know who that is.
- Maybe with a little time in Photoshop.
- Are you going to finish those fries?

Or try not pigeonholing girls. I don't fit into any of those categories. Neither do a lot of people I know. It really annoys me when people try to force someone into a stereotype because of A, B, and C, but ignore X and Y that exclude them from said stereotype.

And to BBQ's question, try getting with a girl who isn't a totally jealous and insecure idiot. We do exist. I don't care if you think someone else is pretty, you're taking me home tonight, aren't you? That's what matters.

Its not all its cracked up to be, trust me.

A pretty girl coming to you is like shopping in a dollar store - the stuff is a dollar for a reason; she's single and seeking you out for a reason. The soda and candy might be fine; the start of the relationship and the sex might be great - but everything else is deeply flawed and she's hoping you'll be the one that's the great catch because she's not.

She's just pretty.

Honestly, I find this kind of attitude disturbing. Using the same logic, you could say that ANY girl who's single is because of some deep character flaw. Just because they may be more attractive doesn't make them have more flaws than the next person, but it does allow for a more shallow reason for going out with them. I've seen a lot of attractive girls with wonderful personalities who are in bad or abusive relationships. Who's to say that they're not single because they just got out of one?

BBQ, I agree with you about the traps and the landmines. I've dodged MANY of those myself.

At this point, I'd take my chances on the cute, tomboyish girl, because she's single under completely different circumstances. Other guys are intimidated because she's a bit more assertive and works out a little bit more than you. So what? I wouldn't mind a girl that had some thoughts and initiative of her own for a change.

This is the part I don't understand. How her being tomboyish could mean she works harder than me or is assertive or any of that stuff? Manly women just means that, manly in the way she and many others behave and express themselves.

She's just like a guy, says things like "no, güey!" "si, güey!" Phrases only guys would use in the past and that already sounded ghetto on them, leave alone how it sounds now when women use them. And on the opposite side I don't see how a woman being feminine and cute means she can't be assertive or work harder than me or be confident about herself and have initiative and etc.




PS > Wait. Is that why women I've met from the US tend to be manly too? Because they would be thrown into the kitchen and forced to make sandwiches if they ever showed any traces of femininity or something? o_O

I have been pleasantly surprised many times by going out on "just one date" with someone who was not my so-called type. Now I just keep an open mind, and unless I'm utterly repulsed by someone, I'll at least go out with them one time. You never know what you might find in someone you may have previously overlooked.

People who hit on other people are aggressive. If you're not hitting on people, then you're going to get hit on, which almost REQUIRES the girls that hit on you to be aggressive. If these aren't the girls you like, try being aggressive, yourself.

When someone seeks you out specifically and paints you into something that you're not - which is "not like the other guys" - it should throw up a red flag. And when she says other guys were "terrible" to her, it doesn't exactly mean they were mean or abusive toward her, it often means he got fed up with her and pushed her out into his life.

When you're always the victim and can never take a shred of criticism, well, its not hard to see why almost nobody wants a person like that or can remain sympathetic towards them. For them, the world is just filled with people that exist to do wrong to them in some way.

Wanna really know why I dumped her? Well, she did just start spouting racial slurs one day, so there's that, but its also the whole life of victimhood thing. As I've expressed in this thread before - my mother has 35+ years of behaving this way under her belt. Chances are if I don't call her tomorrow and wish her a merry christmas, she'll have some kind of breakdown, but once I do acknowledge her, its all about her and how horrible the world is to her.

I don't need that in a girlfriend and if I see it, I will leave. I don't want someone that thinks everyone else is evil and wrong and that, inevitably, I'm just out to hurt her, too. Its insulting, people like that should go seek serious psychiatric help because the next guy probably isn't going to be the knight in shining armor, either.

Sometimes, the damsel in distress routine is an abusive behavior in itself. I had to learn the lesson a couple times. That was enough for me.

I think she's better now, at least I hope she is. That can't be healthy for anyone.

I can't stand women who don't have some manliness. I want them to be able to stand up for themselves and such. I can't stand women that always complain about some one just saying one wrong thing about them.

The way I see it being bitchy is in no way the same as being confident and independent. And being manly does not mean being strong. (Edit > And being cute and feminine doesn't in any way mean being defenseless.)
