Also, surfaces which are only partially sharpie-able. By which I mean, they'll take the ink, but it'll smudge off right away. FUCK YOU AND YOUR SHIT, RANDOM BOX OF CHOCOLATES WHICH NOW HAS A BLOB RESEMBLING "MERRY CHRISTMAS" ON IT.

And being required to attend a meeting two hours after you'd usually go home, just so you can give someone a piece of paper and hear "ok, we'll get you the cash sometime next month."

When I was in the same building with them last week. With the same piece of paper. And it was completed. Fgsfds.

So my youngest son now knows how to write his name, as evidenced by pics that my ex-sister-in-law posted on her Facebook. Problem? He spells it Nicolas, which is his middle name and what his dad's family calls him (I have always called him by his first name) but it includes an H. Nicholas. On his birth certificate and everything. My poor kid learned how to spell his own name incorrectly. ><

If I'm sleeping on the train and there is an open seat next to me there is no need to wake me up. Really, there's no need to even disturb me since my stop for both trains to college are the end of the line and the staff will wake me if I'm still sleeping anyway.

Oh and the reason why I hug onto my backpack is because 1) It's padded and so it makes it quite comforting to hold onto, especially since I'm still recovering from an infection caused by flu and I really don't want to be in Uni but kind of have to. 2) My computer is in there and you will have to pry that thing out of my cold, dead hands if you want to take it from me. I can hear you when you giggle at me for doing that and I don't appreciate it.

Also, if you do wake me then ask me to watch your bags do you can use the toilet instead of taking the things with you I will tell you where to stick them. Nothing personal but all waking me up while I am recovering from an infection does is makes me wonder what I can steal just to spite you. That and tuition is being tripled thanks to our government deciding to withdraw all funding from State Universities (which given that the UK is the size of a US state and can afford so many state universities, is pretty much all of them) so considering that next year I will be a grad student, I sort of need all money I can find. Sorry but pissing me off then essentially inviting me to steal from you is not a very smart idea.

Oh, the guy who woke me to tell me my glasses fell off. That was nice and I appreciate that. I'm far-sighted so I need them to read. It's also very expensive to replace a pair of glasses. The cheapest pair at the nearest optician is £50 (roughly $75) and to a student that's a hell of a lot of money. It also makes me quite useless to everyone for a week while I wait for the lenses to be made since I need them to be able to perform any task that involves reading, focusing on a screen, or focusing on anything that is within a few feet of my face like driving or preparing food for myself.

Color me silly ... but if I know that my floor is linoleum, and that it's unpleasantly cold to walk on (and assuming it's a tad chilly to be wearing just panties), I will make an effort to put on some type of clothing over my panties, and will put on either socks, slippers, or both BEFORE VENTURING INTO THE FREEZING-COLD KITCHEN WITH THE ICY-COLD FLOOR.

It's one thing if the fire alarm goes off in the middle of the night (though I'd likely put on clothes and shoes no matter what), or if you're in a house/apartment with which you're unfamiliar -- but if you LIVE there and it's NOT an emergency, why are you declaring an easily-remedied situation to be a pet peeve?

Reminds me of people who leave home in the morning with no umbrella or coat when there's a storm coming -- then complain about the fact that they're going to get wet. Sheesh!

Panties or it didn't happen. I mean, pics or it didn't happen.

When I lived on campus I've seen people literally walk out naked during fire drills then complain about the cold so I honestly don't get why an easily solved problem is a pet peeve.

Shit, even if there really is imminent danger (like, you can smell smoke or see flames), you could still like grab the comforter off your bed and wrap yourself up, and that's something you can do while moving, so if you're worried you're going to burn to a crsip, you can still run whilst wrapping yourself in a nice warm cozy blanket.

To be honest fire drills always happened on the same day: 4am every Thursday morning so I would always either stay up or just leave some clothes I can quickly change into, a backpack with a spare phone with topped up credit, a charger and a spare jacket, plus a coat I can throw on quickly, grab the bag and leg it if the building actually WAS on fire.

Rule of thumb: anything in a denominator will give diminishing returns as it increases (and increasing returns as it decreases, which is why you almost always want Dia instead of Bio on the mob).

To clarify what I mean, take the function 1/x. For each step you increase a positive x, the function will decrease by less and less, never quite hitting 0.

x=1 -> x=2 results in a loss of 1/2, x=2 -> x=3 results in a loss of 1/6, x=3 -> x=4 results in a loss of only 1/12.

(And as x itself approaches 0, the function approaches infinity.)

Then carry it like a cape and wrap yourself in it when you get outside. WINNAR.

So we just had the Secret Santa exchange at work. I was pleased with the effort my gifter made in giving me my gift, and I was also pleased to find that my giftee enjoyed what I got her.

One of the girls (she's young, not that it's an excuse) was gifted a handmade item from an older woman in the department, some placemats. They're not really stylish, but you could tell they were handmade and that the woman had put some effort into them.

All I can say, based on the way the younger girl reacted, is that I am so glad the older woman is on vacation this week. The utter disdain she showed - offering to regift them to someone else in front of everybody - was perhaps one of the rudest things I've ever seen anybody do.
