One of my roommate/neighbors is like that -- he talks incredibly loud, and has his volume cranked as loud as possible. I've complained about him before in this thread, I'm sure. Surprisingly, none of my other roommates make a whole lot of noise, so I'm not sure why he insists on doing everything so loud... he even slams his door when he goes in and out.

We had a housemate who used to shut doors loudly (and repeatedly). Leave his room --> *CLICK* --> go into bathroom --> *CLICK* --> realize that he left something he needs in the bathroom in his room ... leave bathroom --> *CLICK* --> open bedroom door & walk in --> *CLICK* --> open door & walk out --> *CLICK* --> open bathroom door & walk in --> *CLICK*

Mind you, each of those clicks is LOUD. Not quite door-slamming loud, but loud nonetheless. I'm a light sleeper & this would usually happen well before I wanted to get up in the morning. I had asked him on a fairly regular basis (or had had my husband ask him) to turn the doorknob before gently shutting a door so as to make the process as quiet as possible. Remembering that request seemed to be problematic. One morning after being awakened by the repeated door-shuttings, I heard the front door open & slam shut. I burst out of my room yelling something like "WHY THE FUCK CAN'T HE TURN A GOD-DAMNED DOORKNOB BEFORE CLOSING A DOOR???!!!!" -- only to realize a moment later that he hadn't actually gone OUT the front door before slamming it. I was quite embarrassed -- but I think he got better about the doors after that.

He's long-gone, but now my Mom lives with us. Sometimes she remembers to turn the knobs, but other times she doesn't. That noise still puts my teeth on edge.

I regularly hear the same things here. Since I live on-campus in dorm housing, all the doors have keycard locks, not unlike what you might see in hotels. As a result of the mechanism, they are actually very heavy locks (and doors), so just a regular closing of the door is incredibly loud if you aren't actively trying to be quiet. When you add to the fact you can't turn the latch in as you're leaving (unless you unlock the door from the outside as you leave, which is awkward to say the least), it's pretty much impossible to close the door quietly.

With that said though, you don't have to have the door go from completely open to closed in 1 second regardless of which way you're going, and there's no practical reason to close the door if you'll only be gone for 30 seconds while you run to the bathroom. I won't leave my door wide open, but I don't close it either -- I leave it about an inch open and make sure I have my key in case it accidentally closes.


In all honesty though, I'm nitpicking on things with my roommates now. Compared to last year, this is heaven. Add to the fact that I'll be graduating (which for this purpose is actually both a good and a bad thing) and won't have to put up with it at all anymore after May, and there's no practical reason for me to complain.

I can hear my neighbor every time he opens and closes his door. This usually sucks, but the other night he and his girlfriend were having a fight, and through the thin walls I could hear it all. It was highly amusing.

Unfortunately, as I may have mentioned, I hear my upstairs neighbor ALL THE DAMN TIME. There simply isn't enough insulation between the apartments. Architecturally, this place is gorgeous. Sound wise? Less so.

It was kind of funny. The moment those loud women at work left for the day, my boss stepped out of his office and was like "WTF." And I just laughed. One of them had come to him halfway through the day asking if she could move into an office or something because she was cold in her cubicle. She's a fucking temp. Here for four weeks. I cannot wait until these four weeks are over.

That fact that you're being spoken to is being kept a secret from your girlfriend's parents. Really sucks when I want to even talk on msn or something, but I can't because they might see.

Well, I've lost nearly 30 pounds in the past three months. And I'd lost 40 pounds in the year and a half before that.

So maybe in another few months I will be like "suck it", but not now. I think Taskmage might have a picture of me, I'm not sure. Also I think TGM has seen one of me from '06 fan fest.

I'm in that little "dry" phase of a cold. You start out leaking like a faucet from the nose, go through tons of tissue. Then you totally dry up, but the whooping cough is still there with you. Day four your sides are sore from all the coughing and nothing works at stopping the cough for long, it comes right back when the cough drops are dissolved.

Tomorrow I will likely enter the "massively congested" phase.

I didn't like waking up the other day shivering like I was in a seizure, though. I had a chill like you wouldn't believe, shook so much I almost lost my breath. hopped out of bed, bundled up and hopped back in. That did the trick.

Really, I fucking hate people that go to work sick or things like that. Sure, the doorbusters were good deals, but that doesn't mean you should share your cold with other people.

iTunes is already mostly DRM free, isn't it? I remember buying something from itunes and I could use the files in all sorts of different devices. I don't even have an ipod.

With iTunes you can burn it to a CD, then burn it back into MP3 with another program. It's pretty standard procedure, for maximum control. The only music I have that I haven't bought is what I can't find to buy. Seriously, I'll buy it if they're selling it, but what am I supposed to do if they're not? My entire collection of Mega NRG Man and Powerful T is ripped from those Japanese eurobeat albums. I used to do the same for Fastway, but they started selling his music, so I bought it.

Yah, I've pretty much shifted away from pirating. If some artist puts out music, I'll buy the CD. I used to be a huge pirate, but over the last year, I kinda... stopped. Not sure why. The only thing I DO pirate now is Photoshop, cuz for the casual user, I can't justify paying the outrageous cost for the retail copy.

Actually, iTunes music is sold DRM free now. That happened a couple of years ago. Prior to that, yeah, you had to do the entire Burn to CD Rip from CD thing to break the DRM.

I also buy any music I can find for sale that I want. Since I listen to a lot of indie bands, that can be tough, but it's not like I can find their music online very often either.

Auto insurance. Again. (Posting at lunch, an hour for lunch is too damn long. I'd rather take 30 minutes and gtfo earlier). Anyway. Now my insurance company wants to raise my rate another 20 bucks a month. Dude, this is borderline ridiculous. So here I am, using my lunch break to shop for a new policy.
