I went around in T-Shirt and Cargo pants in the evening in Shibuya and got weird looks from everyone. It was 55 out lol.

I have to know the answer to this burning question:

Why do I always get stuck behind Mr. Good Samaritan who insists on letting everybody and their sister in front of them? The light is green, but do I move? No, ten people are going ahead of Mr. Nice Guy here and by the time the light turns red again, I've not moved even a millimeter.

Let ONE person in, fuck the rest. That's my philosophy, and doing so does not piss off the people behind me.

Is it odd that I didn't find this strange? I think I'm too used to British weather mandating that you take a winter coat, rain coat, spare shorts and t-shirts, shoes, wellington boots, thermal hats, gloves, scarves, windbreaks, several umbrellas and an inflatable dinghy so you can be prepared for any sudden shift in weather.

Its that way for people that live in the mountains, too. Dress warm for mornings and evenings, bring umbrella or raincoat just in case. Come winter, just be prepared for anything.

And up in the mountains, nothing will close, nothing will cancel - life just goes on and you have to deal with the snow, ice and slush if its there. The grocery store will not run out of milk and bread because the people aren't going to hide in their homes. Its the yahoos that come up every Fall to "see the leaves turn" and marvel at the wonders of nature that freak out of that stuff.

Yeah, marvel at the wonders of nature as you flick your cigarettes into the falling leaves. Be thankful everything stays saturated up in the Appalachian region or they'd have brush fires like California every five minutes.

Well in the UK you can usually tell what the morning weather will be like by the cloud cover during the night:

Heavy cover - Prepare for morning fog and rain for most of the day.
Light Cover - It's going to be mild but keep a jacket in your car or something even if it is summer because it's probably going to rain.
Moderate Cover - You're going to get random bouts of it being hot and cold. Unless wind chill if a big factor, take a jacket and keep it on though if it's also windy a coat will be better because the wind's going to suck when it rains.
Overcast Before Sunset - Weather will be the same as it was the previous day to prepare for rain.
No Cloud Cover - It's going to feel like Canada or Scandinavia in the morning so wrap up but it's going to warm up during the day so not too heavily unless you can leave some stuff in the car. It's still probably going to rain at some point so bring a coat or umbrella even if it's 60 degrees out, unless there's no cloud cover during the day, if that's the case make sure you packed shorts in the morning.
It's been raining during the night and you live in an area of the UK that is actually flat - Get to high ground or pack a dinghy.
The sky is actually blue during daylight hours - You're in the wrong country.

Hell, I live in Ohio, and by rights should, after 32 years have a pretty good handle on the weather.

Yesterday it was 70 out, while the rest of the country was pummeled by snow and cold weather. Today it is 40. :/

I came down with a cold on 11/13. Now, 10 days later, I still have the stuffed-up head & some of the cough (being kept tamped down with Mucinex DM -- there's a special place in heaven for the person/people who created that stuff).

I really hate having a cough. I wind up losing my voice whenever I get a cough. Last night was the first time in over a week I was able to read a bedtime story to my daughter & it was still a little more challenging than it should have been. My husband is intrigued by my "sultry voice," but he knows that until my congestion & cough go away, I won't be in the mood to ... erm ... well, you know.

Stupid cold.

I had that issue last week. My job is really nothing more than talking to people on the phone. Losing my voice hampers that, and I don't get sick time or any paid time off yet. Thankfully (?) over the weekend my voice returned.

Thankfully, my job no longer involves talking to anyone on the phone. Even interaction with other people face-to-face is somewhat limited. This works for me. I'm not all that fond of people, apparently.

I used to work in the call center here. When someone there loses his/her voice but still comes to work, the supervisors find some non-vocal busy work for the person to do. I think that's a pretty good compromise.

My last job involved talking to no one at all. It was lovely. I just listened to music and worked all day long in my cubicle, interacting only with the people I chose to. Alas, everything we do here involves talking on the phone.
