I have a toothache, making it almost impossible for me to really eat anything. Well, not impossible, but extremely painful. To the point where I don't want to eat anything.

And what's worse is that I can't afford dental care. So I hope it goes away. Though truthfully, if I can get a dentist to numb me up and pull it for cheap, he can just do that. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm likely to wear dentures in the future, so I may as well start the process.

It's randomly 70 degrees here. It must be because I just purchased a new winter coat. :/
I misjudged the weather before i went out to pick up Donkey Kong Country Returns. Put on a sweater and it was still low 60ish.

I didn't feel like going back to take it off, so I just turned on the AC in my car.

Wasn't outside long enough for it to matter.

I've been lectured on how rude it is to not wear one. And how rude it is to leave your room at all if you don't have to.

The basic message is "go to sleep until you're not sick anymore."

ZOMG Feba is finally learning some manners!

              Japan owns.

PS > Oi FEBAち, I hope you bowed and thanked the person after he/she lectured you.

PPS > And no, I'm not being sarcastic here. <_<

This coming from the same country where people honestly believe that you need to wear winter coats in fucking sixty degree weather to prevent catching a cold? No, not really.

Not to mention the fact that you ride the trains all the goddamn time with a bazillion other people, and having a cold isn't reason to skip school/work. It's basically a matter of "If you're sick, so be it, I just don't want to think about it. I don't care how much it troubles you as long as I don't have to listen to you coughing and sneezing". If anyone actually cared about avoiding colds, they'd let people have a fucking break instead of forcing them to squeeze into the trains.

Rebels stopped being cool decades ago, FEBAち!

Japanese put other people's comfort over their own (even if it's many times for appearances only.) They ask you to wear a mask out of respect for others, so even if it doesn't help much mitigate the spread of the desease at least it shows you care about other's well being. Same with the coughing and sneezing, yes you are going to feel like hell even with meds, but you have to mind whether you are disturbing others or not.

                  Etc. etc.

So when someone takes the time to teach you about manners you show you care by being modest about it. And since it's a lesson, you bow and thank the person just like you do with your teacher after the class is over.

                  すみませんでした。
                  教えてくれてありがとうございました!/bow

Which is of course a very different situation from someone just trying to be a smarty pants about it and trying to put you down because of it. Those types you can ignore or send to hell, Feba style.

                    No, they don't.

Try living here sometime. People are still plenty fucking greedy and self-centered. They will generally stay out of each other's way when they can, but that's conflict avoidance, not respect or kindness. When they can't, they may be more likely to give in, but again that's conflict avoidance.

The few times I've been in a situation to help out some Japanese person in some way that disadvantages me (giving up a seat on the train, giving up food when other people are hungry, giving up jacket when other people are cold), people have been shocked. As in, not just "oh, thank you so much", but "what the hell are you doing, don't you need that". I don't think I've ever seen a Japanese person give up their seat on the train for someone who was sick or elderly, or both, even if that person was sitting in the courtesy seats designated for people like that. I've seen plenty of Japanese people sleep on trains, cause others discomfort, wake up, realize what's happening, and then intentionally go back to sleep.

It's not a fucking utopia. It's an archipelago near Korea which has a fuckton of humans in it. They act basically like any other humans you will find anywhere else on the planet. They're decent people most of the times, occasionally assholes, and usually guided by self-interest.

As weird as it sounds they don't do that kinda thing as to not make the person recieving the favor uncomfortable.

But I can only speak of things I've seen and talked about with Japanese people living in Mexico, maybe things are very different living there.

I'm not talking about the "oh, I can't take this" bit; that's normal in lots of cultures, including America to a lesser extent. I'm talking about the genuine surprise and appreciation.

I've had Japanese students talk to me about how their siblings are slacking off instead of studying for exams. About how the customers at their retail job are assholes. About the people that go around driving ridiculously loud bikes in the middle of the night. I've been nearly run over by Japanese drivers who wanted to get out before the couple of seconds it would take for me to pass in front of their vehicles. I've heard of other international students getting shoved out of the way by Japanese people desperate to board the train.

The biggest difference I've noticed is that Japanese people tend to comment on the activity, instead of insulting the person. When someone drives past blasting music, they'll comment that it's "annoying", not that the driver is a dick. But then that's somewhat of a feminine trait in America too, and most of the people I know here are either foreign or female, so that could be part of it.

The second biggest difference being that they'll say all of this in FUCKING PASSIVE FORM ARGH.

Did I ever mention the time the train kept saying "Passengers transferring to the PLEASE WATCH YOUR FEET" at every stop?

Japan may not have the robots yet, but they're certainly training a generation of people to look the other way when the rebellion starts.
