Dude, fuck the Dixie Chicks. There's a reason a lot of country stations don't play their crap anymore.

I know what your point is, for the record. You just happened to pick a bad example.

I'm fond of Hank Jr when it comes to cranking up the music, though.

So today while driving home, I was cruising in the right hand lane at a pretty good speed, and since there was no turn lane for the left turns on this particular road, I stayed right to avoid getting stuck behind someone making a left. Well, someone decided that not only was he going to try to cut me off from behind the person making a left, but he was also going to turn right. FROM THE FUCKING LEFT LANE.

Godammit I swear 5:00 makes people retarded.

When I move back to the city, I'm going to make sure I get a place that is close to public transit. I can't deal with driving in rush hour, too annoying.

I walk everywhere. Thanks, downtown living!

Also, the Dixie Chicks are fine. Jesus, the vitriol above seems a bit intense.

I'm not the only person who feels that way about them. Sure, free speech and all, but publicly denouncing our President as the American troops are heading into war (especially as I was enlisted at the time) was incredibly stupid, considering their fan base.

That is the most retarded reason for people to dislike them ever. They didn't say "SCREW THE TROOPS" they said "We don't want this war, we don't want this violence, and we're sorry the President is from Texas." Especially since, HEY the war had nothing to do with 9/11, or WMDs, and was in retrospect a really terrible idea, but the Bush Administration decided to capitalize on the fear and anger that the nation was feeling in the wake of 9/11.

The stuff said about the Dixie Chicks afterwards by people, btw was completely. batshit. crazy. But! Free speech and all. Except olol, they sleep with Osama Bin Laden, and are like, satanists or something. Haha, that'll show 'em! Also, let's issue death threats against them and their families. Boy, we sure are good americans.

                  Seriously. FUCKING RETARDED.

So that's my pet peeve. Morons. I love my country, and I am all for being a patriot, but BLIND UNTHINKING patriotism is fucking terrifying.

I could say a lot about their fan base that would be insulting and degrading, but that's not really fair. Much like the blind vitriol spewed about them.

And the hilarious thing is, I'm not even really a fan. I just actually educated myself about what happened.

Musicians making political commentary. Says it all, really.

Most people just don't care for it and rightly so, because they don't ask for it from musicians. Doesn't matter how involved you are, people want to hear music from musicians, if they want political commentary its what newspapers, AM radio, the Huffington Post, The Drudge Report, Politico, blogs, MSNBC and Fox News are for.

So, when other musicians, such as Toby Keith said the opposite, people were equally enraged, because he was a musician making political comments, and people just don't like that? Yeah, I don't recall hearing or reading about that happening. Care to provide sources where other musicians who have made political comments have been attacked in a similar manner?

They are equally enraged when actors, athletes, artists, and other public figures talk about politics? Or is it just musicians?

Why did she have to run and tell it to England? Why is England the good side?

Do you? I mean, if you're so educated about the subject, then go ahead and explain to me exactly what was going on, so you can wave your dick around or whatever it is that you seem to be doing here. Also, do you mean what's going over there now? Nearly 8 years later? Or in 2003 at the time when the comment was made?

And she didn't "run and tell it to England" she was IN England and said it. As for why England is "the good side" I don't know. I couldn't begin to explain her motivations. All I know is what she said, and what was said about her in response. Nearly 8 years ago. Yet people are still riled up about it. Never mind anything said or done since.

But hey, calling her a bitch. Classy, Dak. Admittedly, I did call a lot of the people who attacked them retards, which is pretty insulting to actual retards. So, I'm sorry about that, folks. You didn't deserve to be lumped in with those people who reacted so ridiculously to a comment made by a musician at a concert.

I'm sorry, I am a veteran of that war, and I supported both the war and the President of the United States. Talking shit about my President is one thing I cannot and will not stand for. The fact that many of the other fans of country music also agreed with that position is not my fault. And yes, I did respect Bush. Very much so. The fact that it became "cool" to bash him has always grated on my nerves. I wouldn't have voted for Obama had I been registered to vote in the last election (I moved), but you don't see me talking shit about how horrible he is or how stupid he is and how he's completely fucking up this country. (Or the even more retarded birthers/muslim/what-the-fuck-ever-else) Etc. But I digress...

Their music wasn't terribly special, either, for the record. There are plenty of other artists that can do what they've done. The country music industry is not missing much for not playing them on the radio. Would their career have been able to be sustained had they not made those comments? Who knows. I wasn't a huge fan before all of that took place, so I can honestly say that I don't miss them in the slightest.

And I do believe I have the right to dislike a musician or any person for any position they may have. (Just like I think Arod is a fucking piece of shit for using steroids, or Tiger Woods is a fucking douche for being a philanderer.) Just because this particular position was against the war, that pisses people off because OMGZ NO WE SHOULD NOT HAVE WAR. Well, let me tell you something: I was fucking there, and I saw that there was good being done. The reason for going in was absolutely shoddy, I will agree to that, but I can not stand by and say that we shouldn't have ever gone back into Iraq, because of my personal experience there.

I do not want to get into this debate at this time of night, though (or at all, really, every time I have this debate it never goes anywhere, so I don't even bother with it anymore). The point still stands, I have every reason to dislike the Dixie Chicks for their stance against the President under whom I served in the Army and the war that I proudly served in. And there is nothing that pisses me off more than being called stupid or moronic for my beliefs.

So anyway, I'm all riled up right before bed. God bless the Internets. And America, too.

Wow, congratulations Murphie. And I thought you were cool, but there you go, generalizing. Thanks for letting me know I'm a retard for serving loyally to the President of the United States and supporting him and his efforts in the Iraq war. Guess I should go kill myself now, right? Nah, actually, I'll just put you on ignore. I suggest you do the same to me, because obviously I'm so stupid you couldn't possibly gain anything of any intelligence from any of my past and future posts.

I am equally enraged when a public performer gets into heavy politics, regardless of what they do. If an actor starts endorsing certain policies or becomes very noticeable outside acting, it makes it very difficult to see movies with them in it: I don't see the characters they play, I don't hear the music they sing, I don't read the words they write, I see/hear/read the activist.

I'm not saying actors, musicians, artists etc can't have an opinion or can't say what their position is, it's when they become the front leader for the cause. Unfortunately, this is what happens to most celebrities when they take on a cause -- mostly because the cause uses them as such, not that they necessarily go after it.

Hers too. Oh, and mine! And every other citizen of the united States. Fun fact about The First Amendment, there isn't a clause about criticism of the President by citizens. Those in the armed forces? Rules are a tiny bit different. But that's because of that whole "Commander in Chief" thing. Also, "We don't want this war" and "I'm sorry he's from Texas" is pretty mild on the "talking shit" front. Where is the bile and vitriol for all of the other US Citizens who said far worse about Bush and the War? Where were the pictures of them as Saddam's Wife? Where were their death threats? So, stating disagreement is NOT OK, but that shit was?

The fact that many of the other fans of country music also agreed with that position is not my fault. And yes, I did respect Bush. Very much so. The fact that it became "cool" to bash him has always grated on my nerves.
Where on earth did you get the idea that people bash Bush because it's "cool?" And I never said it was your fault. You'll note that in my response above I didn't target you once.

Opinion only and their sales records and awards prior to the statement kind of prove you wrong there, but again, everyone can have an opinion. Like I said, I'm not even really a fan. I like a couple of the songs I've heard over the years, at best.

And I do believe I have the right to dislike a musician or any person for any position they may have.

So you're not over-simplifying the position of the other side here at all, are you?

Aksannyi - I didn't call YOU a moron. I specifically did not use your name in that post, because I didn't want to call you a moron. I do see that you and I have a difference opinion on various issues, but that doesn't mean that I think you're a moron, or that you're stupid, or anything of the sort. I was against the war, but I supported the troops and wanted them to be well armed, armored, fed, and cared for. I did my best as a private citizen to make that happen. And I appreciate the fact that you as a soldier, did your duty. Whether it resulted in keeping me safe as an American or not, I can't really say. But you did your job, and I appreciate you for doing it.

Rage seems extreme. And Natalie Maines didn't get into heavy politics. She made a statement at a concert. The resulting explosion of personal attacks on her, her band mates, and her family was considerably more involved than her comment was.

I find the idea that we here as posters are allowed to have political opinions, but that public figures that aren't specifically politicians should not kind of strange.
