Re: What's your pet peeve in RL?
I said I don't like to. In repetition, at that. It doesn't mean I don't dress up.
And personally, respect to me is showing up, doesn't matter what you're wearing. Being there says it all.
I mean, what if a poor family wants to pay their respects? Do you just turn them away because Jimmy's dad couldn't afford to get him a Polo shirt? Does wishing someone well on a wedding mean my life has to come to a grinding halt financially for a week? Why is the choice between a Polo shirt and a suit and tie a part of closing the deal? I mean, I thought the exchange of ideas was part of that, but if we need Joan Rivers out on the red carpet, then why bother? Apparently being there and having a good idea wasn't enough.
Our culture is so vain its sad.
Again, I can see why women get a bit excited (well, not about funerals, no one does, you know what I mean). Vanity is adventurous fun for women, for men its all pretense.
Also, I just read above that BBQ does not dress up for weddings or funerals. Classy. "The dead guy won't care." Um, the funeral isn't FOR the dead guy. It is for his friends and family. And you dress up out of respect for them. But hey, just show up in your baggy khakis or "good jeans" sneakers and your tee-shirt. It's not like there are, you know, reasons for these things. It's all just arbitrary!
