Yeah. Politics. They suck.

But at least all the talk I hear these days have moved me. I've made a commitment to begin telling people that I'm bisexual, starting with my best friend when he comes back from Germany in January. It's something too personal to tell to somebody over the internet, so I told him I had something important to tell him when he gets back.

The plan was always to just find a good wife one day, but it's only recently dawned on me: "But what if I fall in love with a man?" Hearing over and over things like DADT may or may not be done away with, or gay men being targeted and killed, makes me feel like the life is being sucked out of me and nobody cares, that to keep it to myself any more will just eat me up inside.

So there you have it. You guys are the first to know and I think more-or-less anonymous people on the internet being the first people I tell is pathetic.

Yes. Though they also need to prove it, and if you tell someone, it's probably considered hearsay unless you have a few witnesses.

My roommate when I was in AIT was very obviously a lesbian, and she was always on the phone late at night arguing with her girlfriend (who was a bit insecure and jealous). She never told me, and I never asked, but we both knew that I knew. A lot of other people probably knew, too, but we didn't talk about it. None of us really cared enough to turn her in for it, quite honestly. So I'm not sure what would have happened.

Even if she had told me, I wouldn't have cared. It didn't bother me any. But if she had, and I wanted to go to the chain of command about it, I'm pretty sure there lies a burden of proof. They'd probably investigate it, see if he/she had told anyone else, and then go from there.

And that investigation is, quite frankly, more harassment than they'd probably get if they could just be straight up about it and just tell you. Personally, I want a close(ish) relationship with my unit. I want to know them well enough to trust them when we go into combat. You can't really have that when you have to keep such big secrets and when you can't just be open with each other. It's up to them if they want to be out, but for people who were very obviously out of the closet, it's fucking stupid that they just can't tell people.

It should be the intolerant fucks who can't work with someone who is gay (or black, or Jewish, or whatever) that should be kicked out.

Ha! "Don't Ask, Don't Tell . . . if you're a bigot!" XD That's a law I'd love to see!

(Much more practical military applications, too - kind of difficult to form a cohesive unit if you hold unfounded prejudices against its members.)

Ok, I'm gonna vent. First let me say that I know the internets is serious stuff, ha ha, but sometimes you just need to let things out to random people you don't really know well. You can predict the response from people you know, usually, but from random people you sometimes get a fresh perspective.

So, I had a very depressing doctor visit recently. I found out that I have a bit of a decision to make in the near future. I'll try to be as brief as possible. My kidneys/liver are failing, as many of you know. Well the kidneys are first to go and the doc just told me that when the time comes for dialysis, I can't be listed on the transplant list until I have BOTH kidneys removed. It may not seem like a big deal but it is. Even though the kidneys aren't working well enough to maintain my life, they will still be working somewhat. If you go on dialysis and have issues, the kidneys do pick up some of the slack and gives the doctors more time to figure something out. If you don't have any kidneys, they have less time and you have a much greater chance of dying a very painful death. Also the diet you are put on when you are on dialysis sucks ass. You are VERY limited on liquids and even more so if you don't have your kidneys. I'm sure thats something that I can deal with, but the whole higher chance of dying aspect is a little daunting.

My son has offered his kidney. We don't know how much of a match he is yet but we do know he's the right blood type, so thats half the battle. But even if he is a good match, they won't transplant the kidney unless I have both diseased kidneys removed. If his kidney doesn't take or if I have rejection issues, we visit the "die a painful death" aspect of it. For the record, they won't put me on the transplant list because my kidneys are constantly bleeding and excreting pus. That would create issues with a new kidney so I totally get why they are saying that.....but holy hell this is a mind blowing decision. I almost feel like no matter what I do, I'm fucked.

I'm sick of my support group being all "oh everything will work out in the end!" "you'll be just fine no matter what you choose to do" etc. Sometimes I just want people to be straight and not lovey dovey. I swear to god sometimes they act like having this disease is like the most awesome thing that ever happened to them. It's fucking annoying sometimes.

So tl;dr Kidneys failing, won't put on transplant list unless both are removed, higher chance of dying a painful death if I do........wtf would you do?

But considering the way I am I'd probably try my best to keep my kidneys working without relying on a transplant, specially if the transplant has high chances of failing anyway.

And would change my diet as if I was already without them in an attempt to ease the load on them.

However if chances of a transplant working were good I'd probably jump on it Leeroy style and hope for the best. Either way things wouldn't be the same anymore, and from what I've seen people gets used to this stuff relatively fast as long as there's no pain involved.



If it didn't work though and I was already on my way for a unnecessarily painful death I'd probably pull the plug myself. But there's obviously no way of knowing without being there, so I can only guess how I would react considering the way I am right now.

You and your son go under, when you both wake up you both have one working kidney. You both get dialysis, you for support, him for the lulz, and you both jump on the transplant list for a second kidney.

Seriously, you do what you have to do.

Ya, I've been milking these kidneys along for 20 years now. I have about 23% function left and the doc said that could take a nose dive at any time so I should be prepared. (Sometimes makes me wonder if he knows more than he's saying.) And yes, in order to milk them along, you have to make some diet changes. No caffeine, low salt, no foods with high potassium (and thats a lot of f**king foods!), no foods with high oxalic acid (and chocolate is one which totally blows), no smoking, and no drinking. Supposed to be on a low protein diet too but I had 90% of my stomach removed and because of that I have too eat more protein because of digestive problems. So those 2 conflict with one another. But ya, I've been trying to maintain them as best as I can and I must be doing pretty good because 2 docs said I would probably be dead shortly after I was 40 and that ship has sailed. lol

I don't know...big decision with HUGE consequences and they lay it on you like its making a decision between a Big Mac and a Whopper.

It is a bit ridiculous, though I find a cable company - who would prefer you be totally gullible and feel bad for them - to be less sympathetic.

Then again, all I could get out of Fox is The Simpsons and sports, so am I really missing anything else. I mean, they have that news channel that's as bad as CNN and MSNBC. My parents seem to like it, but I don't care much for any sort of televised news, given its all just bullshit anyway.

Meh, I have my Netflix. I could give a damn about cable TV. I waited years for this shit to be on my terms and I don't see myself going back to cable.
