    Re: Yes We can

Too true. A constitutional amendment banning same sex marriages? I don't think so. As Bill Maher pointed out tonight on Lary King, he would be "ignoring the stop sign" within the constitution that separates church and state by doing so. You can not mandate a religious belief like that for an entire country.

Also forgot to mention early that Jimmy Carter likes Barack a lot too (though he hasn't endorced him)

Not sure I agree with you on that prices argument though. I don't think it would be quite that bad.

Agreed, regardless of your personal feelings, its a state issue if anything. The federal government already has too much of a say in people's lives.
Not sure I'd go around telling everyone how much Jimmy Carter likes me. Atleast he's a politician, though. Does anyone at all give a shit which Hollywood actor is endorsing which candidate? If I want to know what they think is the best movie this year is, or if Paris is good in bed, I'll ask them. If I want to know who has a good idea on how to handle the budget, taxes, and other domestic and international problems, I'll listen to someone who actually knows politics.

You're unique. People typically follow the halo-effect mentality.

          Re: Yes We can

I will say that the only real effect a famous person's endorsement of a politician has on me is whether or not I like the famous person. I'm more likely to go "hey, (s)he's cool, he likes the same candidate I do", or "ha ha, I can't believe that idiot like that moron". Basically, their opinions change how I feel about them, but it doesn't change my opinion in the way they would like it to be changed.
For instance, I used to like Danny Glover. I enjoyed the Lethal Weapon movies. Then he goes and starts hugging on Hugo Chavez. Now I think Danny Glover is a dipshit and continue thinking Hugo Chavez needs to diaf.

That's pretty much how I go about things as well, Caspian.

So you're saying Oprah's opinion doesn't matter? A lot of women in America would tell you otherwise

Actually, Bill Maher was on Lary King last night and was for the most part on the ball. He only had a couple of wrong/asshole remarks I didn't care for but otherwise was great (and right) as usual.

Well there is a big difference between saying "a celebrity's opinion doesn't matter to anyone" and "a celebrity's opinion doesn't matter to me."

Precisely, I know there are people out there who are swayed by their favorite actor(actress) or tv personality, but personally I couldn't care less.
As for Oprah, I've seen some women who seem almost borderline fanatical about doing whatever she says they should do. But whatever, to each their own.

I just wish there was a Republican candidate I felt I could really get behind. They're all so meh. I liked Thompson, but he didn't stand much of a chance. The three left have me not really liking any of them the way they bicker back and forth like school children.

I just pray that if Hillary does end up winning it all that they don't nationalize health care. Holy crap that would be a disaster. The quality of health care in this country would fall through the floor.

I know, my dad and I say the same thing; Universal health care just won't fly in the states. Obama's plan is much more realistic and right now he's won 12 states so far. California looks like it may go to Clinton according to the early polls, which is weird since they were 36 and 34% just the other day in the polls.

If there really is a god/deity/higher power, please let Barack win @. @

Bill Maher said it best last night on Lary King. You can't recruit a phenom, and the party would be insane not to take advantage of it this year. The fact is Barack's a much greater uniter than she is, and he alone has caused huge voter turn outs this year.

What do you think is going to happen with all those young voters if Hilary gets the nomination? They'll all go right back into the woodwork.

                          1) I really want Bush back in because I like him.
                          2) Any idiot running against him would win.
                          3) I knew someone would blindingly think that my #1 was the reason I posted.
                          Thanks Kazuki.

I wasn't implying that at all. Generally speaking I find it's the people who go looking for racism in this manner who are the real racists.
Alright. Explain to me what part of voting for someone purely because of their religion isn't prejudice.
