It would be better if kids were just born to parents that wanted and could take care of them.
And I do agree with you Feba, in fact I actually plan to adopt a child or two down the road if I make enough money, but for some of us a biological child with someone you love is a big deal, its very symbolic, two literally becoming one. I know I very much desire to have a child with the woman I end up with and I can not imagine the sadness that not being able to have a child with your significant other could bring a couple.

Could it be that there is a reason why some people can not have children? Natural selection? Could it be that through the generations of that person that evolution has decided they shouldn't produce? Like I said before, throw in the religious aspect into this and it will get even more complicated. All of this manipulation kind of reminds me of the movie Gattica.

I would hate to live in a world where people who choose to have children the "natural" way are ostracized or children born with defects are considered disposable.

Things such as this are not as far fetched as some believe. Currently if you have a life threatening condition you are in a database that is accessed by insurance companies. You are already "marked" as defective/inferior and denied benefits. I know this for fact because I'm in it and trust me it significantly affects your life. So additional manipulation of the reproduction process kind of scares me and people need to think of all aspects of how this could affect them and future generations.

The natural order of things is already horribly off mark, but that's another topic that is very touchy to go into. Humanity, simply by using antibiotics has already thrown that off.

Who cares? You can't phase our gender out. There would probably be a huge whiplash effect with the lesser intellegent males where they'll feel the need to subjagate and control females to the point where they're just sex slaves.

Or... most of us will die out and you'll have to keep the rest of us on an island for breeding purposes.

You have to think about how past generations would've viewed our society, though. Women working while men stay home? Homosexuality being accepted? Interracial marriage?!

What is culturally acceptable changes, even more often lately. Right now it might be considered horrible to genetically modify and select your offspring; in the future not doing it could be seen as child abuse similar to not giving them vaccinations, or providing them with proper diet and exercise.
