In the moonlight, your face it glows.. like a thousand diamonds, I suppose.
And your hair flows like.. The ocean breeze...
Not a million fights could make me hate you, you’re invincible. Yeah, It’s true.
It’s in your eyes, where I find peace.
Full Metal Alchemist was hailed as the best anime of the year. Bleach is pretty bad ass too, along with Lucky Star and Naruto // Naruto Shippuuden.
Deathnote too. I've yet to watch haruhi but seeing as it's done by the same ppl who brought us Lucky Star, it's gotta be good. Azu Manga and Love Hina rocked too.
Still, I can't believe you wouldn't consider Dragon Ball (and I mean the original series, not Z or GT) as one of the all-time greats. And as far as Japan is concerned Gundam is the eternal champion of anime.
Yes, the original Dragon Ball is fucking classic. Best of the franchise. Dragon Ball Z can be considered pivotal to the American market at least, I believe it to be one of the series that really popularized anime, and gave it a foothold in the country.
Not everyone may agree with me, but I consider Neon Genesis Evangelion to be one of the greats. It was more a work of art than most any anime released.

DBZ was only good before it was translated. Subbed download eps ftw!
Completely 100% agree on Neon Genesis Evangelion there.

I can go to the local mall and see a whole section dedicated to nothing but various Gundam figures and model kits of various sizes. There's even a Gundam arcade machine (four of them, to be exact) where you're sitting in it, and the view is as if you were inside the Gundam. There's even foot pedals and control sticks you gotta manuver.
The system saves your pilot data, and compares it with the rest of the nation, as the whole thing is online.
Also, doesn't Bandai have a life-sized Gundam Model in their HQ office building? I'm positive I've seen a picture somewhere. There's also that Gundam theme park ride where you tour the inside of the original RX-78, it's pretty sweet.
Gotta say that Gundam SEED Destiny has been great (I'm almost done the series ^^) and I can't wait for the movie.
Malacite: I know they've built two or three life-size replicas, I'm not sure about at their HQ though.
I know they built the Torso, Head, and arms of a Gundam for one thing, and a full size gundam (laying down) for an amusement-park type thing (if you did an event and completed it in the time allotted, you could sit in the cockpit and watch a video, or something like that)
I also saw recently some news that some group had looked into the cost of building a life size, fully functioning gundam. You know, giant robot walking and all.
The price was estimated to be about $750 million dollars (USD I believe)
Really, that's it? Yeah that's a lot of money I know, but I would have figured a working Gundam would at least be in the billions. The Beam Rifle alone would be horrendously expensive.

Keep in mind though, it's not as though they were constructing it to be a fully functional, combat-ready mobile suit.
Could you imagine the thing walking? I mean hell, look at Asimo, it's plastic and tiny, and it has enough problems walking. Has anyone ever seen a robot that actually had a reasonably fast and human like method of walking that didn't require some kind of support?
Although, they did estimate something like 7 gas turbine engines.
Supposing we ever did get a real life, functional Mobile Suit (For the sake of argument, let's go with RX-78 since it's the simplest of all the gundams. That or the Strike)
My guess is it would run at least a trillion dollars for a fully operational unit. As my friend in the military likes to point out too, it's not just the cost of building the thing, but think about the maintenance. Dear god what a nightmare (both in terms of money and labor)
