Re: Church to protest Heath Ledger funeral.

All of what Telera said is why I put down "Non-denominational Christian" as my religion of preference for my mobility info and dogtags. It's simply just not worth the hassle of dealing with people's idiocy to say I'm a part of this church or that church, but rather just express my faith and move on.

But then again, like I've said in the past, politics and religion make for bad casual conversation.

i am a Gay person is real life, and this is what turned me away from all religions, They all Spread hate. I tried going to a few churches and all i hear is gay people are sinners they are going to hell.

I say FUCK that, i am not going to hell for any reason then any other person. I believe that everyone has a purpose in life and that there is a meaning to life. But i do not believe in any book written BY MAN..

you can call my atheists if you want but i don't put a label or Id on my sleeve.

Before anyone judges me, i have had many Girl Friends and i can attest to it i did not choose to be gay it is who i am. After i realized that i became happier and alot of weight got off my chest.

For the people that disagree with me, why the hell would i want to be gay when i cant get married, have kids, get discriminated and can loose my job for being gay. and then you also have the Religious Wackos on my ass saying i am going to hell.

Religion has 1 purpose that is to bring people together, but times have changed all religion is doing now is splitting people away from each other. Religion starts wars. If you don't believe me go on Cnn and watch the news.

Ok i am done with my rant

This isn't some regular church. This is an extreme group that does not represent Christianity in any way. I understand you are gay and have anger towards religion.

Religion doesn't start wars. People using the guise of religion do.

Aaah nut jobs. Gotta love them. Dont you love it that these people cant deal with the fact that the movie was PRETEND, IT WASNT REAL. It's just entertainment!

To those bashing religion, I can see why you do. If all I saw where these type of pricks I'd truly hate it as well. And while I dont attend church or anything, I recently had to go to my Grandmother's funeral and while I was there, I understood why at least 80% of people go to church, it IS comforting. Yes there will always be the extremists but it's best just to ignore them. All they want is attention

on a lighter note, these guys need to play an MMO or soemthing. they have way too much free time...

True; Ihave went to maybe 10-15 Churches and temples. They all spread the same hate in someway. Religion is fine if you use it to guide your way through life. But to let it dictate and lets you judge people you are not religious your believe in the religion of HATE.

Ever since i was younger i did not believe there is a God or higher power. The way i see it, if i don't see it, it is not Real.

I tell everyone do not judge me until you walk in my shoes, my life is not easy. I have many challenges but the only thing i can do is get up and walk down that hard road of what i call my life.

I have a very bad heart ( it is working at 42%) when i was 8 years old i was told i will not live past 18, I am soon to be 24. I have had 2 heart attacks and i am on medication.

I do believe that everyone has a purpose in life and i have not completed what my purpose is. When i DO i will be happy and if it is my time to go i will fight it as long as i can...

This part made me chuckle. It's adorable.

Pretty much every other gay person I know had the same reaction when they went through their personal revolution or whatever. Then eventually they chilled out and realized that defining themselves through what they aren't was never worth the trouble to begin with.

People are just people. The longer I live, the less worth I find in expending energy on perceived groups instead of real individuals.

About the protest itself: World at large continues to ignore unbearable assholes except to point out what unbearable assholes they are. Film at 11.

Everyday I begin to understand more and more why atheists and others cannot abide the vast majority of Christians.

Because said vast majority is incapable of following the most *central* precept and commandment laid upon them.

                Love. Everyone.

Period, the end. They are not to judge or condemn. They are to love everyone, even people they may not agree with. Why? Because hatred never helped anyone, that's why. If you're *hateful* with someone they don't give a flying fuck what you have to say.

People like this...yeah, in for a rude awakening come their Judgment. I don't even wanna be in the room.
Yea, I gotta agree with the bbq'd cat in that *most* religious people aren't hate mongering retarts. Though I will admit the smallest numbers always seem to have the loudest voices, and messages of hate usually add more weight to their words unfortunately. So many people always focus on the bad things that happen in life, whether it's caused by religion or caused by authority figures or caused by governemnts or whatever. Yet the good things they do go unnoticed.

Religion *has* helped just as many, if not more, people then it has harmed. And when practiced correctly, when people focus on the love religion promotes, instead of the hate that it's often twisted into, you will find that these people are often the kindest of souls.

See, it's things like this that go unnoticed at large because of people like the morons in the story. Having something to believe in can and does comfort people on a personal level and helps many, if not most, who follow their religion to lead better lives. Religions never start for evil purposes (except maybe the Church of Satan, which was started just to mock christans and promote laziness), they were founded by philosophers who wanted spread ideals and promote love and peace and caring and all that other hippy BS. But much like the schoolyard game of "telephone" or whatever it's called, messages will always be distorted as time goes on and people will latch on to a fraction of the bigger picture and ignore the rest. And those who are guilty of that are the ones causing the most problems.

                There's a reason why they're called extremists

Fixed. E! needs to be mailbombed, so people can get a fucking life and quit worrying about which member of the Spears family just got knocked up.

Add: On-topic, I don't believe in karma, but I'm sure Westboro Baptist will get what's coming to them. I think it's a law of nature that if you act like an absolute ass for long enough, eventually someone will not take to it and punch you in the face, or in this case, you protest enough funerals saying the deceased are in Hell because God hates fags, some soldier's father is going to take exception and put a bullet in your head.

Yeah, that was my leftover point. It's a shame to see someone die in the prime of what they do, but there were hundreds if not thousands of 28 year old males who passed away well before their time this week, and none of them have been front page news for 4 days, that doesn't make their passing any less unfortunate than a celebrity's.

The other day, me and Jesus were hanging around the Red Light District when he asked me this question: "Why do people think my last name is Christ? It's actually 'Bong.'"

To which I replied: "Good question there JB." So we pondered some more while we toked on the hookah.

Soon as I read "Kansas Baptist Church," I almost immediately discredited everything else they had to say. Everyone knows nothing good intelligent comes from churches. I mean, C'mon.

Oh P.S. I thought Ledger was a pretty decent actor. I enjoyed most of the characters he played in movies, even *GASP* Brokeback. Look forward to seeing him portray the Joker from beyond teh grave.

Srsly. I shudder to think of the stupid opinions and attitudes I espoused at 17. Then again, I was 17. Stupid opinions and attitudes kind of come with the territory.

E! wouldn't exist if people didn't watch it. People want this stuff. I've long since given up on trying to tell them to want something else. Complaining about the news media telling us about this stuff is like complaining about the store for selling us the products that we want to buy.

Well, best of luck to them getting the entire congregation to Australia.
I doubt they'll send the entire congregation, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if they managed to get a handful of people out there. The WBC is fucking insane.

On the other hand, I think they went to Austrailia before, and activities like theirs were banned. I could be thinking of something else, though. Laws have been made in at least two or three places in the USA barring funeral protests purely because of these people.

Great publicity stunt. Worked nicely, too; I bet millions of people now know about that "church".
Millions of people already do. Google Westboro Baptist, they have a lengthy history. Although really, it's basically a very public cult.

There was a documentary in Britain nearly a year ago about an American family very similar to the nutters here.
That was this. Or at least, there was a british documentary on these people recently.

Yea, I gotta agree with the bbq'd cat in that *most* religious people aren't hate mongering retarts.
You don't have to be a hate mongering bastard to hate people, and hate people unfairly, though. But more than that, speaking as an atheist, the thing that gets to most of us is that the laws almost all christians claim are divine and they must follow are just randomly picked. I remember a book about an athiest who decided to spend a year following the laws of the bible literally, and it was downright silly. I'm talking things that pretty much no modern christian would do; many of which were borderline illegal (he couldn't stone any adulterers, but he managed to throw pebbles at one).

The thing that gets to most of us is people that claim to follow the bible, or the teachings of Jesus, or whatever else, but don't have a clue what those are, or even worse, if they do have a clue, ignore them. For example, any time a christian mentions how the bible is so against homosexuality, bring up leviticus. Tons of abominations in there they probably have absolutely no qualms about participating in.
