And the answer is, you shouldn't. The only person you have to answer to is the one that you look at in the mirror every morning.

I think people get to worked up about how others see them or "fitting in". My mother drove me crazy with her attitude about what other people thought. "Iron your clothes or people will think you are a slob." This little tidbit included my underwear....now who in the hell is going to see my damn underwear but me!? To which my mother would say, "You wear clean pressed undies in case you get into an accident and they take you to the hospital." I'm thinking I have more to worry about than clean pressed undies if I'm at the damn hospital!! And who's to say they'll still be clean when I get there....if you know what I mean! LOL

I don't think it ever did, nor will it ever.

Tolerance, like many virtuous elements, is extremely fragile. It doesn't take much for it to become prejudice and outright hatred.

I've noticed that many individuals can be(or at least consider themselves) very tolerant(though that bus driver certainly wasn't). It amuses me that it's when "person" becomes "people" is when such things fall apart.

I'd probably be more sympathetic if every 'unique' person I've met wasn't a complete idiot, d-bag, druggie, etc, and doing it simply to fit in with other idiots, d-bags, druggies, etcs.

Man. You must be sheltered. Every unique person you've ever met is an "idiot, d-bag, druggie, etc?" Do you only ever hang out with people who walk, talk, act, look, dress, and think like you do? The world is a pretty big place. You can't always presume to know everything there is to know about an individual based on your own stereotyping and moral predjudisms.

I never got the clean underpants thing because surely if you see a huge bus coming towards you at speed, they wont be clean anymore... (billy connolly does a great routine on this)

As for me i wear things that are comfortable, I only iron shirts and press trousers for work (as I need to be reasonably smart to meet clients) but the bulk of my out of hours gear is tour T-shirts and jeans, both of which don't need ironing. As far as I'm concerned people where what they want, do what they want, listen to what tehy want. The only thing that would change my attitude towards them was if they were trying to force "their way" onto others.

As a person living in britain, I have to admit that this is one of the craziest places for stupid things like that.

A boy was once in the newspaper because he was charged to pay bus fare for his hamster "inside a cage". Also recently in Birmingham shopping centres no longer can we have santa and his grotto in shopping centres or nativity scenes incase it offends the immigrants we've let in.

As soon as I've been a qualified nurse long enough I'm leaving this hell hole. It's got to a point where people have too many rights. Whatever happened to "shut up and do as you are told" ?

I'm waiting for britain to enforce a life tax where you'll be shot if you dont pay it.

Yes, when I was young I wore mostly t-shirts/jerseys and jeans too. And yes....she made me iron those as well. /sigh
