    Or simply destroy all existing sidewalks. Then you don't need any carpeting, and whether it gets soggy in the rain or not isn't even an issue.

      Lyonheart: The entire point would be to overthrow the shoe gods, Nike and Adidas, as well as the thousands of shoe-churches. A world where all men can walk around barefoot, without threat of injury or dirtiness.

      That would only be the first part of my plan, though, of course.

      Afterwords I'd put the entire of humanity's effort into building useful (if less than intelligent) robots (I have no doubt it my mind that we could build a robot that could replace human labor within 5 years if we had enough money and people behind the projects), then getting the robots to the point where they can manufacture themselves. Once robots basically become self-duplicating machines, work on the intelligence it will take to replace robots in other areas of human work.

      The way I see it, once robots are capable of doing anything humans could do cheaper, quicker, and more efficiently than humans, there will be absolutely nothing for us to do. Obviously that would lead to any capitalist economy collapsing, and replacement with a sort of robo-topia-communism, where anyone can get anything they desire without effort. The only fields left for human work would be creative arts, and the internet has proven that people have absolutely no problem doing these things for free if it could earn them fame. So basically, my only goal would be to speed this up from what I imagine is about 30-50 years away, to a much smaller timeline.

      Anyway, once we are in the robotopia, I would put efforts into an I/O system for brain/computer interaction, and a framework for systems that could use this. Basically, a cross between that Tom Clancy novel I read that one time, The Matrix, Second Life, and other things in that genre. Besides being the best form of entertainment ever, this would also replace the prison system-- anyone who was breaking laws would simply be restricted to a place where they could not harm another person.

      After that, get the robots to build space vehicles. From there on, it should be obvious.

                  Cut off everyone's feet. I guess that doesn't quite take care of the injury thing, but at least that will take care of shoes for good.
