Fact is Bush is just an idiot puppet dancing to the VP's strings.
EDIT: I'm serious when I say read Lee's book. It is VERY insightful.
CASTRO WAS READY TO TALK THIRTEEN YEARS AGO AND WAS IGNORED! All this nonsense with Cuba should have been over. I have to say, of all people I can't believe Bill Clinton didn't act on that. For such a respected and educated man, that sure was a bone headed move on his part (much like NAFTA. Though to be fair, it did seem like a good idea at the time)
As for China, there are a lot of reasons not to even be dealing with them. Their lack of ethics for one.
They devalue their money (which is ILLEGAL in the USA and Canada) to gain leverage creating unfair trades. Oh by the way, much as I love Japan, they do the same thing and should be equally scrutinized.
More importantly, China has no qualms with stealing technology and then reproducing cheap copies, as well as sharing it with their military. Remember, this is a nation that mixes it's economy and military... "Ancient Chinese Secret" may very well be Ancient American secret. Some days I honestly wonder why they're a member of the security council.
At least Germany openly repents for both World Wars. In fact, they don't even want to hear about it because they're that ashamed of it. I wouldn't trust China if my life depended on it. Not until they get their act together.
Oh, and Lee Iococca points out one all-important detail in his book that a lot of people (I sure didn't) know. People like to say the reason trade is kept with China at this alarming rate is because of the debt they now hold (I think it's around or just over half of the USA's debt now?).
Well, as Lee points out, what do you think China's going to do if suddenly they can't sell their wares in the USA? Shit all, that's what.
That's right. Everyone thinks that the USA has to keep trading to keep it's debt down, when the reality is all these unfair trades end up increasing it. No one realizes the huge leverage the USA actually holds. It is the world's biggest Bazaar, and guess what? If countries suddenly lose their largest, most valuable market, WTF are they going to do?
So start using that leverage damn it to work out fair trade negotiations. That goes for everyone, including us Canadians (though I consider myself to be half Canadian half American. At least until I get my dual citizenship as legal proof
) because let's face it:
NAFTA failed, hard. We need a better deal that works out for all 3 countries. Quit giving us such a god damned hard time getting into the country (Honestly, it used to be that my dad's US Citizenship was enough to drive across the border. - .- ever since Bush changed the policies I haven't been able to visit half of my family without a passport. THANKS A LOT ASSHOLE! Can't even go out for a day of shopping in Watertown) and also grow a pair of balls and show some damned Sovereignty instead of kissing Mexico's ass.
Pardon those border agents already, tighten border security along the Mexican border and tell their government to get their god damned act together or they can go screw themselves. There is absolutely no reason for the US to kiss their ass when their citizens are leaving their country in droves to be in the USA illegally, or because they want to give immunity to a known drug smuggler who is Mexican.
There is a very long list of people waiting to get into the country legitimately and it's not fair to them, and especially not the American people. Thank goodness new laws have been passed to punish employers of illegal aliens.
Tell the Mexican government to deal with their own freaking problems and piss off. Obviously people are leaving because life sucks over there and they believe they can find a better life in the USA.
It's the embodiment of the American Dream (and so is Barack Obama IMO); that everyone has an equal chance to pursue their hopes and dreams. Though for the illegal aliens, they'll have to wait in line like the rest of us.
