  • Bizarre Phobias

Yeah, I'm sure this has been done before, but I don't like Necro-ing. SO NEW THREAD, GO!

Phobias. Lots of people have them. Some are pretty common. Clowns, spiders, heights. Others are seriously off the wall. My radio DJ did a call in about it one night and there are some very odd things that frighten people.

I'm talking things like cotton balls. Aluminum foil.

So what are your phobias? Normal or super-weird.

    Mine:

Aliens. I am not shitting you. I am 100% Grade A Anxiety Attack terrified of aliens. No, I don't believe in abductions. But I do believe in aliens. But what I'm referring to here is a massive terror that hits me if I see even a rough *sketch* of one. Heaven help me if they ever DID come to earth. I would likely suffer a massive coronary on the spot.

I don't know what triggered such a fear. If I had to try to guess, I would assume it to be the by-product of being exposed to a show about alien abductions at the age of 7, and having nightmares for *days* afterwards. Perhaps it scarred me, I don't know. Still don't believe in abduction, though.

Even things that just *resemble* an alien's eyes scare me. Like two large almond-ish dark spots on my wood panel walls in here. I don't like to look at it. Or the Chupacabra page on Wikipedia, which I would love to read, but can't because the sketch is entirely too alien-like, and the eyes send me into paranoid fits.

    ..so yeah.

I'm getting twitchy just talking about it. x_x

On the plus, I don't have any 'normal' phobias. Spiders are gross, but I mostly just kill them. Heights used to bug me, but not really anymore.

I have a phobia of moths. Its not too bad or bizarre but i hate the things, i don't know what it is about them but every time i see one i jump for the hills. Its annoying as hell, people laugh at it all the time like i'm actually scared of them but i'm not, i just can't stand looking at them.

      Just a normal phobia here.

Public speaking. The type where I'm at a podium and all eyes are front.....

...."speaking" via the net I don't consider to be public speaking due to the wonderful anon nature of the net.

Public, eyes front speaking induces cold sweats, nausea, weak knees, and the sudden urge to hide behind a large metal object...preferably in a different state. ...it also makes me want to get plastic surgery and change my name. ><

        being unable to speak.

Either physically, I'm-trying-to-scream-and-no-sound-comes-out (actually happened once, after I had developed this fear, I was afraid for my life even though I was in no real danger), or being labeled insane and locked up, with nobody believing what I say.

Afraid of heights and...afraid (but not dramatically afraid) of dummies (not stupid people...see below). Not baby dolls. Not toys. Not teddy bears. DUMMIES. I think the only fear with me on the dummies is that I DO NOT want them in the same room with me alone/staring at me while we're alone while I'm doing something/staring at me in my sleep.

/em goes to bed while a dummy is across the room staring at me.
          /em closes eye.
/em opens eye and sees the dummy looks like it has moved closer. It's probably just my imagination.
          /em closes eye.
/em opens eye and sees the dummy is even closer this time. What the...nah. Maybe I'm just hallucinating.
          /em closes eye.
/em opens eye and sees the dummy in front of me with a devilish grin.

Sorry. I just think of the worst possible thing happening between me and a dummy. They're just a little creepy, but I'm not deathly afraid (although, it seems like I'm making it seem like that after writing the above).

Well telera best you not go to see War of the Worlds Live then.
I was petrified when i was a small kid by war of teh worlds, we had the record and I used to hide when ever my brother played it (he was a sadist!) right up until many years ago I would elave the room if it was played. 2 years ago I broke my fear and saw the stage show live with 30ft tripod and major CGI, I enjoyed the music and the story and managed to combat my fear.

On a serious note everyone in this forum would have a phobia.

Mine is wasps. For good reason though (which is why i ahev that electric fly swat I mentioned on another thread) I am alergic to their stings i.e. it would send me into anathalaptic shock, which is dangerous and can kill.

As for teh otehrs mentioend, dumies those are creepy and wouldn't blame you if you had one in your bedroom and had just watched chucky, as for th moths, I am not feared by them, they are jsut a nuicence. Turn on a light at night, whacking great moth buzzing around it, why they never come out in the day time when there is plenty of light and a huge bright sun!!!

Public speaking is probably a very common one and one you can get over. when i went to norway for a month I had to do many presentations to varying different audience sizes. Previously I had only stood up and spoken in front of collegues in a small audience of 5 and I knew them. The first presentation i did in england before we went was to 120, I was kegging myself! I managed to baffle through it. Now after 25 presentations, its much easier. you just have to take the bulkl by the horns, take some embarrasment as you babble through the first few until you start feeling comfortable.

Phobias? Other than Aka taking over the world I don't think I have any phobias.

Closest would be when insects land on me, but it isn't because I'm afraid of insects, is just that I don't want to risk getting bitten so I take them off asap.

Edit > Oh! Maybe I have one after all.

Gangs, I'm afraid of gangs taking over my neighborhood and having to hear that damn music everytime I go home, along with all the other bad stuff that comes with them.

Good thing there aren't gangs like that where I live.

Being mugged by a drug-addict/hobo/whatever wielding a contaminated syringe. Especially if I'm with my family. I'm really not sure what's worse: having to live with AIDS because of some asshole, or knowing that a close family member has to.

I'd probably be just as scared of zombies if I thought they existed.

Honestly though, I'm telling any of you people what I'm frightened of.

EDIT: I lost a word, here it is: not.

I could just imagine the reaction if you went to a Jeff Dunham performance and he brought out Walter.

Couldn't resist.. Here's what happens when someone walks out on Walter!

BTW.. I've got basic fear of public speaking, and extreme fear of... get this.. death and what comes afterwards.

                          Re: Bizarre Phobias

I personally am deathly paranoid of getting my throat slit. I don't know why, I've never had a cut on my neck or anything, but if someone touches the front of my neck I freak out. I can't wear necklaces, and many times need to leave my top button undone when wearing ties. I accidentally knocked the crap out of an ex g/f out of reflex once when she accidentally hit me in the neck, I felt really bad about that for awhile

And I guess a bit for spiders, but I have rules to it. Medium spiders don't bother me, I let them stay since they eat more annoying bugs, but little spiders small enough to crawl in my nose or big ones large enough to confuse the food chain I kill on sight(or run like a bitch vs. the larger ones).

Well, I enjoyed the movie that was done a couple of summers back, but that's because the aliens didn't really resemble greys at all. I was afraid before it that they would though, so I was relieved when they didn't.

                            ET is cute.

It's just anything that looks like those damn greys that sends me into fits of terror. Signs (the movie, yes), that poor Chubacabra sketch, any show about UFOs on tv, though I watch them anyway because I must be a masochist.

Anything that does look like one, or my imagination can twist into looking like one is fair game.
