  • Lucid Dreaming

Anyone else do this, or at least have an interest in it? I had three this morning, out of four total dreams. I woke up, felt sick, went back to sleep, had four dreams, looked at the clock and realized all four of those dreams had happened within 20 minutes.

First dream was hilarious, although I didn't go lucid. Basically, I was sitting in my back yard with some dog, it jumped up and got stuck in 0G. It got back down to the ground by swimming through the air, then jumped (and flew) over the neighbor's yard, and then swam back.

Second dream I did go lucid, was in a house with a bunch of kids from when I was in school (for some reason, I dream about school a lot, even though I haven't been in a year. Mostly dreams where I try to get out but I get mistaken for a student) , don't really remember much.

Third was a false awakening, just got up and wandered around my house until I realized I was lucid dreaming, and shortly woke up afterwards...

...only to find I was in another lucid dream. This one was a little entertaining, since I had quite a few reality checks give funny results. First was my standard-- being able to breathe through a pinched nose. I then checked the lights to be sure, since it was fairly realistic. Oddly, the light was a switch (I didn't notice it in the dream, but in real life that switch and the one in my bedroom are buttons. In dreams, lights are always on regular old switches), but when I turned it on, instead of the light going on, it went from a dark gray room to a lighter gray room XD third was one I don't normally check-- I had the cable box in that room, so I looked at the time on it, looked away, and checked it again.. instead of the time not displaying, or being a non-existent time, it had changed to a temperature gauge; something I've never seen a cable box do, and highly doubt they can. Even disregarding that, the reading was in degrees Celsius... and every few seconds it would switch from reading 11-17 degrees to over 80 (I clearly remember it switching from 12 degrees to 87 right in front of my eyes). I laughed, and then walked down the hall. I noticed a radio was on in the office-- it was playing Mario music, better than I'd ever heard before. I mean, better than SMG, which is damn good. I picked up the radio (it was a type I don't own, a bose Waveradio I think, although it was definitely smaller) and listened to it for a bit, and then there was a freaking opera singer. An opera singer. With lyrics. Singing the Mario theme. I laughed, then walked downstairs. I don't remember what happened after that if anything, but I woke up.

So-- am I the only person that does this? Anyone have stories to share, or care to make this thread into a collective diary (reading one about just one person is boring imo, which is why I got bored writing mine as well) ?

Also, anyone have any interesting RCs? or methods? These were actually my first LDs in months, although they weren't very vivid and I didn't have any control over them (I actually almost lost the dream entirely trying to change the scenery in one, although I can't remember which.); I think because of accidentally WBTB'ing (the only other time I've had multiple LDs in one night was also a WBTB)

    Re: Lucid Dreaming

I used to be into trying oba's.....but when I actually got that to work, it wouldn't stop. Every time I tried going to sleep, I ended up getting a few hours less, due to not being able to stop the oba's. ...that took years to stop. Haven't had one in probably 4 years. I also don't intend on going back.

      Re: Lucid Dreaming

Everytime I am able to have a lucid dream I would spend it flying. That's right, flying. It's freaking awesome.

Too bad I don't have the discipline to try having those kinds of dreams at will.

Raydeus: It doesn't take too much discipline. There's a pretty good guide to it on wikibooks, I highly recommend googling it.

And yes, flying is indeed awesome. I've flown twice (well, three times if you count this hilarious bad experience) in lucid dreams, always only a few inches off the ground (again, except the hilarious bad one) and it feels good. It's like, you can feel the wind passing over you, but it feels better than just wind.

But then, it feels different for everyone.

The few times I have flown has been the same way.

I also died a few times in my dreams. That will start your day off shitty.

That only happened to me once. When I woke up, I was still dreaming. The freaky part was actually waking up to realize that I died while I was dreaming that I was dreaming.....

haha, I used to have falling dreams all the time, to the point where all my dreams were falling for at least a few years. I always woke up before I actually hit the ground, though. Probably my scariest dream ever was trying to jump across a collapsing bridge in a mall that was under construction. I almost made it to the ledge... and then fell.

Coincidentally, I've always sucked at platformers.

I fly all over the place when I can grab control of my dreams. I do love it. Though the funny thing is that I start off swimming in the air to get enough speed.

Also, my dreams are the only place I have been scared to immobility. No matter how hard I try, I can not move do to sheer fright. I hope that doesn't happen in real life.

I had something like that happen, once. I was living with a bastard kitten, the thing scratched my back while I was going down the stairs, I fell down (luckily it wasn't too much of a fall) and tried to scream, but couldn't make any noise. Luckily I was back to normal within a few seconds. That was probably one of the single scariest moments of my life, though. Never had it happen in a dream.

                    Re: Lucid Dreaming

For some reason, there are times when I've tried to fly and it wouldn't work, and I really would want it to, but I just couldn't make myself get the kind of height I wanted.

Probably an analogy on my life.

                      Re: Lucid Dreaming

I can only recall one lucid dream. I can't remember how exactly played out, but basically my entire family (but me) became vampires one by one. They cornered me in the kitchen, then I realized I was dreaming, and the first thing that came to mind was to wake myself up before I was eaten. It worked, but in retrospect I should've had some fun.

                        Armando, that's freaking hilarious.

You should've used some silver addition signs, though. You have those, right?

                          Re: Lucid Dreaming

I've only had two dreams I can recall that were particularly lucid, and in neither case was able to take control of anything other than my own thoughts and actions. In one case I actually woke up from said dream into a non-lucid dream before very long.

My dreams and OBEs have always had a significant problem of very low levels of virtual sensory input. In many of my dreams lights failing to turn on at all has been an extremely common symptom, as well as day having a tendency to turn spontaneously into night, and any sort of OBE/AP always gives weak sense impressions, like trying to make out shapes in a room with almost no light.

Dying in dreams, on the other hand, is not particularly unusual. It has happened in a number of them, and the result is almost invariably that my perspective simply shifts to someone else in the same setting (a fairly unremarkable experience, one moment I'm facing imminent death and the next I'm someone else, aware of the death of the self I was a moment ago but not much affected by it). Of course, then there are a fair number of dreams I'm not even in, I'm just aware of people in it as if I were watching a TV program, or sometimes I shift from being in it to not being in it and vice versa.

I don't D: Besides, I was pretty young, I'm not even sure I knew how to ward off vampires back then. And I didn't want to kill my own family. Otherwise, I could've grabbed a knife.

Most recent dream I had that could fit into this was where I dreaming of being my rp character. In it, my body was being used as a puppet held by strings while girl's giggling was echoing in my mind, next then I knew I was walking on my hands with nothing but ocean blue boxers on and i had to run like that to turn in a test that determines everything. Suddenly some babe grabbed me in the crotch and grinned at me. Then poof I woke up cause of the alarm.
