To say that public schools are anything less than a failure is an understatement, imo.

I dunno, the schools up here in WI are pretty good, but then again, our taxes are high and education is a VERY big focus up here, especially with the UW here in town. Down south, on the other hand, it seemed like the big focus was "hurry up and get through school so you can a) join the military or b) marry someone who is in the military". We used to have whole school assemblies so that the Army could come in and start brainwashing the 15-17 year olds into joining the day they graduated (and it worked, I'd say 3 out of 5 people ended up joining after graduating). The ASVAB was a required test in Georgia when I was there...and all results were submitted to the U.S. Army. Prolly why I had recruiter's banging down my door and blowing up my phone every 2 weeks...
