I motion, A.I. Love You, by Ken Akamatsu, author of Love Hina. True love made from a computer program! Infact >_> I think robots/bio-andriods/cyborgs/andriods/computer programs/holograms are the only way most of us geeks are gonna get anything pass the intrewebz just for pr0nz motions.
Just make a basic self evolution subroutine, set the basic parameter for personality and whom the object of initial affection, then lock out through a code that takes 1000 year long to hack for any changes to make the perfect A.I. that is human whom can not be changed by their 'owners'. <.>â„¢

Sexbots just sounds a lot like slavery to me. If it is simply a machine that emulates sex without any true intelligence, then I guess I can live with that. Might satisfy all the distasteful men in this world, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.
Can the deviant desires of the distasteful ever truly be satisfied? Or will their desires simply grow as they feed it more and more?
I recall hearing a social worker comment on a case where some teenagers brutally beat someone's pet. They said that teens who commit acts of abuse against animals are statistically more likely to commit acts of abuse against people later on in life. If taking out their aggression on animals could satisfy aggressive impulses, you would think that the statistics would show an opposite trend.

I personally drew the line at "indistinguishable." If you can't tell a person from a robot easily, that opens up a whole world of suspicions and paranoia, and said world goes down the toilet. Think "Battlestar Galactica."
Plus, if I drew the line there, I wouldn't have to worry about much of anything else on that list.
As for the "intelligent as humans" thing, I stick by the adage of "machines are only as smart as the people who make them."
I'm kind of creeped out about robot AI, tbh. Who's to say they won't find a way to revolt and turn us into their slaves or something crazy like that? The idea is intriguing but I'm not really interested.
And marrying a robot? An inanimate object. I can't even wrap my head around that. If they allow robot marriage then they'd better allow teh gheys to marry. And yes there is a reason I bolded that I think everyone should examine that statement.
The only thing that I worry about is the robot to be able to reason things... Once they are able to make desicion based on their own reasoning, they're pretty much a new race on their own. It's the only thing distinguishing humans from other animals atm.
There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.
If they were organic robots, I wouldn't see a problem any of it. Essentially genetically engineered human beings with different properties. However, if they're steel and iron and can't naturally reproduce, then I prefer their identities be made apparent and limitations place upon their individuals. Creating a new species of human is one thing, engineering a free thinking machine is another.
Actually the idea of gynoids does interest me, but I get the feeling I'll be falling in love with an immersive reality (ala the matrix) NPC much sooner than gynoids will exist.
