You may have Taiwanese heritage, but you're still an American.

It doesn't make your comment any less hypocritical or ridiculous.

and your reasoning does? so basically, criticism cant be done by anyone then right? unless you're the smaller country being stomped on? well if you're being stomped on your gripes have no weight anyways.

sorry, i might be american by birth but im taiwanese by blood, i have every right to say something. i might have been born in the states, but my entire family still resides in tw. these sorts of issues are important and by discrediting everything anyone says by 'oh look at your country' doesnt hide the fact of what they are doing and continue to do.

sure you can respond with what the u.s. has done too. does it make it right? no, it doesnt. do people speak out against it? you bet. you're just dancing around the notion that i have no right to say anything other than facing the fact of whats goin on.

I never said you didn't have the right to criticize. Sure, what China is doing is not right.

But it's ignorant that you describe those actions as "disgusting", yet you walk around perfectly content in a country that's committed or supported atrocities for over five centuries.

You just made a huge assumption when you posted.

I made that assumption because of the diction that you used in your original post.

You were talking as if the country you live in isn't guilty of the same thing China is doing. That's what sparked my response to what you were saying <.<

Half the people that live in the U.S. dont agree with what Bush is doing. Your place of residence doesnt determine your stance on squat.

I find it disgusting what they do is because that very same thing can easily happen to taiwan. That concerns me greatly.

Now you're just splitting hairs...I already know that where you live doesn't mean anything.

I already said, it seemed like you were talking as if China was unique in its corruption. It's okay to be concerned as long as you recognize what type of country you live in. As long as know that, I have nothing to say. Happy now?

The official reasoning from those two is that this is internal affair of Burma, and not a threat to international peace. While it is probably some form self-serving play from those two countries, the argument itself is not entirely unreasonable.

I have very low opinion of China in general, but need a little more than that to blame the current Burma mess on PRC.

If the soldiers refuse to shoot the monks and protesters, the army will quickly change its tune and say they want to work with the monks and others to better the country. The situation is quite precarious in Burma now, and not just for the democracy movement.

And, wouldn't a foreign invasion (which is what any U.N. force send to Burma would be) be precisely the kind of thing which would unite an army? A fractured army now may be the key for a better future in Burma, as hard as it is to stomach pictures of dead monks floating in rivers...
