Re: What would be in your house?

Actually, weirdly enough I watched a program about some people who decided to build a green house in the middle of the lake district or somewhere. They got a wind turbine and some solar panels and despite it being Britain they were getting a lot more energy out of the Solar Panels than they were the Wind Turbine. The blades are quite heavy even on those very light models apparently.

Apart from the usual, you can probably tell I like the whole indoors/outdoors thing a lot.

    1. I would have a cross between an underground pod house (mowing the roof ) and one of those great Japanese style houses where big sections of the outside walls are lockable sliding doors so you can open up the whole house if you want to. Part of me wants a Hay Bale house but I suspect that's more to do with getting to play with a chainsaw.

    2. Big kitchen, pantry, decent sized store rooms. I like to cook.

    3. Underfloor heating, I hate radiators and shoes.

    4. Library/game/computer room with at least one incredibly comfortable oversized, overstuffed chair that I can curl up into with a blanket. Possibly also one of those library ladders on wheels because your home should make you smile.

    5. An outdoor suspended bed (so it swings) or hammock under some shelter. There is something really satisfying about sleeping outdoors.

    6. Home cinema.

    7. Solar panels, light wells, turbine if the area supports it, composting toilet, rain catchers etc.

    8. Big greenhouse and garden/surrounding land.

    9. I love baths, especially with a book, so I would want something big, with temperature control and jets and current and stuff.

Re: What would be in your house?

If I could get a house with solar paneling and/or a wind turbine, I'd do it immediately. I want as little money as possible going into the hands of energy companies, because they have enough already.

I also like the idea of having power during a storm. Yep that's right Hurricane Whatshername.. keep blowin'.

This was more along the lines of what I was talking about. Though it is to the extreme of the "green" spectrum.

I honestly don't know how much sun is required for solar panels to be efficient. I was just asking it rhetorically, really.

Those look pretty cool. I hate to say it, but my knees aren't going to let me run forever....so I'd definitely consider putting in one of those. Modest price tag and you wouldn't need to swim to the other end of the pool if you wanted to get to your water bottle, use the restroom, etc.

It's not really 'japanese' bathrooms. Thats just how bathrooms are in asia in general. Since its more humid on that side of the world, having an open shower tends to work better than having an enclosed shower because its humid in and out of the shower.

I want a viewing room for movies and games. maybe 1 row of staged seating. not your typical movie seats, but the over-sized movie seats. (if any of you have been to the ArcLight or the Bridge would know). Nice sound system for the movies and a sound proof room so the outside world doesnt know what you're doing.

If I were to build my own personal 'dream house' of sorts, thinking within reason...

-2 Car garage, with a walk in loft and a large, wide, perfectly flat and even driveway...perfect for roller hockey or other such activities.

-A 'fancy' sitting room, fireplace, nice furniture, no TV etc and a more 'average' sitting room/den for every day general use...with a large TV. And a large main kitchen with a decent sized dining room (got lots of family so need a place for em all to eat).

-A large master bathroom, with giant whirlpool/hot tub, stand up, multi-headed shower/steam bath thingie with a bench/seat thing, TV and a cushioned 'throne'. and of course a big master bedroom suite things with it's own smaller sink/toilet bathroom.

-Personal Gym, personal 'shooting range' (i don't own any real guns but I would like a place to work on and tweak my paintball stuff), and a personal workshop for both big and small work projects.

...and now that the boring stuff is done, on to the fun stuff

-*TONS* of hidden rooms, pathways and closets, both inside the house and outside...just for the heck of it.

-Suped up personal security system, close circuit cams, remote locks and super-unbreakable windows and glass...cause you gotta protect all your cool stuff.

-House wide intercom/music system that works on a zone-by-zone system that can be controlled with a remote, so when I walk through the rooms the music can follow with me without the need to blast it in one room I'm not in.

                              and finally...

-Two big 'play' rooms. One in the basement for the 'big kids'...kind of a mini sports bar. Long, leather couch, mini kitchen (medium fridge, convection microwave, etc), personal bathroom (sink, shower, toilet), Pool table, dartbaord, foosball, air hockey, couple of classic Arcade games etc etc etc, MASSIVE TV with surround sound speakers (the room of course would be soundproof) and the current top-of-the-line game systems, pretty much all that cool 'guy' stuff. And another play room for myself in the attic where I can display all my geek junk, or in other words...all my toys. Anime figs, Transformers, Statues, comics, manga and other books, replica swords and weapons, all that cool stuff. It will also serve as my office and gaming room with at least two computers, one for my 'work' (art, word, and other such programs) and another for my personal gaming. Of course it too would have it's own giant TV, super comfy gaming chair and all my systems, including classics NES and Genesis. And attached to this room would be a small rooftop deck overlooking my backyard.

Of course I'll have 'green' solar panels set up and in use cause there's no reason not to use them. Anything that can be done to save energy and get it for 'free' with no harmful side effects is a great thing imo.
