  • Birth control pills...for men?

Apparently, birth control pills for men may come to a reality soon. It's basically a sperm-blocker. (Edit: I'll rephrase this. It prevents sperm production) Here's the link:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3543478/

Here's a few quotes from the article since the article is pretty long:

For the first time, a safe, effective and reversible hormonal male contraceptive appears to be within reach. Several formulations are expected to become commercially available within the near future. Men may soon have the options of a daily pill to be taken orally, a patch or gel to be applied to the skin, an injection given every three months or an implant placed under the skin every 12 months, according to Seattle researchers.
“It is time for men to have some control. I think it would empower men and deter some women out there from their nefarious plans,” says Brown. “Some women are out there to use men to get pregnant. This could deter women from doing this. An athlete or a singer is someone who could be a target and they could put a stop to that.”
“We are trying to find the best combination with the least amount of side effects and then the least amount of medication that may be required to get the maximum effects,” says Wang.

At least the haunting of a broken condom incident ~could~ be prevented.

    ... doesn't sound too appealing ...

transform a yellow spot into the sun.

Hahaha, awesome. Men will no longer have any reason oncesoever to bitch about birth control. They'll be able to make sure they're not oopsed, and will be able to experience what women have to go through to keep safe. Yays all around.

I hope to god your girlfriend is on the pill.

If you're using just that to keep from knocking up your girlfriend, and have access to other forms of birth control, all the linking in the world can't save you, but please try and see how insane that method is, as even if you do not ejaculate into your spouse/partner, your semen is STILL going to get inside of her, and if she is not protecting herself, she can very easily get pregnant.

Then use a condom until she gets on hormonal birth control (and even then, it is smart to continue to use condoms; no BC is 100%, and it is better to be safe than sorry). While this link is interesting, "within the near future" could equal 1 year, or 10, due to the way the pharmaceutical industry works.

I was 16 once, and I understand what you're going through, but in this day in age, there is no reason not to practice safe sex.

They suck much much less than 18 years of child support.

I don't think I'd use this simply because it would disrupt the testosterone balance of the body which would effect my health and athletic goals. I would much rather have the darn things clamped. While this most likely won't come with truly scary side effects that come along with the female version, it will still play a little havoc with out systems and the way we as the male gender function. However, I support it as contraception in this day and age is needed for sure.

No offense, but you don't need birth control, you need an education. Don't be a fool, stay in school, and call 1-800-COLLECT. Pray to the various gods that Feba never runs the country, because he doesn't pity the fool, and he aint got time for no jibba-jabba.

Appealing, condoms sure are a hindrance. But pills can be somewhat unreliable whatever the case... I think condoms are still the best means to stay out of complications as they not only help with birth control but also with diseases...

Ooh if this were a perfect world... there would be nothing between you and your partner, one can dream..

                            Re: Birth control pills...for men?

How long will it take for positive correlations between testicular cancer and the man-pill to show up I wonder?

There's a rather high positive correlation between the female pill and various cancers (proven, no matter what documentation some doctors may push on you) and I'd be just as worried for the men as I am for the women.

I don't touch the pill. Every female in my family tree that has taken it has gotten some form of reproductive cancer, every woman that hasn't has had clean tests their entire lives. I'd be worried at seeing a spike in cancer for men, too.

Personally, if the docs would let me, I'd get my tubes tied before I became active, but they emo about you having to have two children first, even if I swore in blood I'd never sue them if I changed my mind. Not that I would, at my age, I'm quite capable of making that kind of life choice.
