I thought he was referring to configuring spellcast.

And to that I say I find this as fun as the game itself. Actually that applies to both the xml coding and the stat optimization.

Depends on how you look at it I guess.

If you gear right for WS it's hard to eke out more than a handful of damage points with gear upgrades, but if you gear wrong (like stocking up on MND for Swift Blade when you should be whoring out Accuracy and Attack) it's pretty easy to suck.

Plus, it's not like any of the math goes beyond the most basic algebra.

Except basically that should be said for anything you do where you have a weapon in hand.

And while the math isn't hard, its tedious dealing with getting the absolutely optimal setup by constantly going back and plugging in stats every time you sit and see what if. I just don't see the reward being proportional to the effort required.

The important thing isn't plugging in the numbers each time you make a decision but just having a decent understanding of what the math "means" (i.e. what things scale linearly, what things are exponential, what has diminishing returns, what caps, etc.) Someone that knows that can make judgement calls about gear on the fly instead of having to plug in values every time he needs to shop. Not to toot my own horn but I rarely ever do actually calculate things when I pick up gear. If I can't make the decision easily the difference is probably too small for me to care.

But even in the latter case, Microsoft Excel will go reaaaaaally far towards making this sort of thing quick, easy and painless. It's probably the single most-used tool in all my FFXI number-crunching days.

EDIT: And when all else fails you can just get me to solve the problem for you. It's a well-known fact that I can't ignore math threads. It's kind of like how (real) vampires can't go into your house uninvited, or cross bodies of water.

I'm taking my code back. Discovered it's not holding up well in field tests.

                Converty goodness for all 2.0

Ok, I think this should work: [XML] RDM_Convert - Pastebin.com

Task Mage, let me know what you think of that. Is there a cleaner way to do it?

                  What did you change?

---------- Post added at 01:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:37 AM ----------

So, the point of this script is to make sure that items that increase your max mp do not get removed if they still "contain" mp, right? That is, if removing them would drop your max mp to below your current mp?

Correct. I got really tired of Converting into 900+ MP and then going to cast a nuke and suddenly being down to 700 MP after casting Drain.

The difference between this method and all the others I found online is that I've jerry-rigged it to determine what the Maximum MP is dynamically rather than hard-coding a number in. What with Abyssea, subjobs and food, I figured it would be better to have the ability to set it based on the current situation. I'm still scratching my head over how I can get it to do it all on the Spellcast side so I don't have to maintain in-game macros.

What I changed from the last version I tossed up was that I was pants-on-head retarded and forgot to edit nearly all of the <equip> tags I had copy/pasted. I spent like 30 lines just continually locking the hands slot. Took me nearly an hour to realize what I was doing wrong with that one. I felt dumb.

New (to me) truck! I managed to score a pretty sweet deal, it's a 2006 Chevy Colorado and it has 41.9k miles on it. It's not very tricked out with options - like no CD player or power windows - but I don't need that stuff. I wanted a reliable ride that was newer than my last, in great condition, and a Chevy pickup truck. I got exactly what I wanted, and its gas mileage is a thousand times better (okay not really) than my old one. went from 10mpg city/14 mpg highway to 17/23. That's way better.

And since this post is useless without pics, of course I shall post some.

(All the indicator lights are on because I turned the truck on just to get the pic of the mileage. Lol)

So yeah, pretty stoked. It's a bit of a financial stretch (wtf isn't, though) but I did my figures and with a good deal from the insurance company, I'll be able to make this work. And considering I was paying about the same monthly just to maintain/repair my old one, it just about evens out anyway.

I did cry when I let Beast go, but I knew I left him in good hands - this is a friend I've known for over 10 years, and he'll take good care of my Beast and send him to a good home once he's fixed up all nice.

Here's to another 7 or more years with a fantastic Chevrolet vehicle.

Looks amazing, and really good mileage considering it's age.

If you don't mind my asking though (and it's really none of my business), but why do you specifically need a truck? Do you haul things around a lot? A car would have scored you considerably better gas mileage, and may have even cost less both insurance-wise and fuel-wise.

I don't haul much - just some things here and there. I just can't stand driving cars. Every time I get in one, I feel too low to the ground and very uncomfortable. And I have a seething hatred for minivans and their drivers. SUVs I can stomach, but I prefer trucks. It's definitely more of a want than need thing, and I'm terrifically stubborn. But since I was able to make a good deal, I don't feel so bad about spending extra money on a pickup. Even my dad agrees, I got a good deal and since I am happy with getting exactly what I wanted, it was worth it. And my dad is usually the first to call me out when I'm being financially stupid.

Makes sense to me. Plus, I really do hate being behind an truck, van or SUV and having no freaking idea what's going on in front of me.
