I just realized that the SeeDs in Final Fantasy 8 represent human cultures who scattered over time and forgot their shared origin. CRAP. Now I have to reevaluate that entire story for symbolism. No wonder that plot was absolute nonsense: it was an allegory!

Okay, well, now that I've been on the job for two days and I have about 10 minutes before I want to be in bed, I'll run down how the job is going so far:

Yesterday I did pretty much nothing but observe and take notes for my entire 10 hour shift. It wasn't so bad, though, as we're a fairly laid-back bunch and toward the end of the night when shit got slow, we were looking at cat images on some dude's Facebook and laughing our asses off.

Tonight I got my first foray into the computer system we are using, and that meant putting me straight up on the phones to help clear up some holding cards. Basically, every time an officer makes a contact, it goes on a "card" which they radio/phone in to us and we put it in the system, and then it goes to the property manager so they know wtf it is we actually do. So I caught on to that fairly quickly, but I didn't actually get on that part until about 00:30, since there was general craziness up until that point.

I was on my first ever phone call at when I got my first taste of some shit going down, not on my phone, of course, but on someone's radio they called in and said something about shots being fired. I was in no position to turn around and watch it all unfold as I was busy on the phone, but it's kind of cool to realize that we're really out there in the communities and people are putting themselves on the line. And that we're such a big back-up part of that.

Someone bought a bunch of pizzas and crazy bread from Little Caesar's today so I picked at it all night. Some of these people never fucking stop eating. Weight loss? Forget about it.

I'm digging the ten hour shifts. Even when it's slow, we just talk and bullshit with each other and it's pretty cool. I've already learned a lot on my first two days and they're all really impressed at how quickly I type. I guess all of that "//cure5 stan" and "//paralyna cer" shit did pay off after all. Lol. (Nah, I was fast a typing before that.) I probably won't be thrown on the radio for at least another week, which is fine. For now, helping with answering the phones and getting some of the easier cards put in is good for me. And last night, I was the oldest person on shift. :/ I didn't ask my supervisor his age since he wasn't on last night - and I think he has at least a few years on me - but fuck me. I'm old.

So, tl;dr, job is going well so far. Learning a lot and enjoying it, working well with the others.

The gardens were a military academy not associated with any government. Students there were from (primarily) surrounding towns and countryside.

I don't care how much sleep you've been deprived of, I don't see how you can find any allegory in that.

Trabia and Galbadia Gardens had SeeDs, too. That's where Selphie and Irvine came from. The important part though is that they were all raised in the same house together as children but then somehow magically forgot they all knew each other for some contrived reason involving Guardian Forces. I always thought that was the stupidest part of a stupid plot until last night out of the blue I put together that that's what happened to early humans, who came out of Africa, spread across the world, and somehow forgot that they were any relation to eachother.

You're reaching so hard you're arm is about to fall off.

You know, even without GF, adopted children will often forget the other children in the orphanage they grew up in if they come across each other later in life. Hell, I doubt I'd remember anyone from my junior high, and I know my parents.

The they knew each other a long time ago was an attempt to build a reason to help Cids wife, not a look at the human condition.

That it's their schoolwork and then the world coming to an end is reason enough for them to help Cid's wife. I may not remember everyone in my kindergarten class, but I remember several people from elementary school. These seven kids lived in a small house together for most of their childhoods. It's not plausible that each of them would forget all of the others.
