Well, going in to work sick turned out to be a not so great idea, as I have now found myself unemployed. I snapped at someone (not a supervisor, btw) and I got canned for it. Yeah, it sure is great being a temp with absolutely no job security whatsoever. Glad I was only trying to concentrate on something so telling them to shut up (yeah, okay, in a snippy voice) was grounds for termination. Yeah okay it was dumb but if I thought I would be fired over something so stupid I wouldn't have done it. Kicker is the supervisor wasn't even in the room when it happened so someone ratted me out. Pretty sure I know who it was, too, so ... gfy bitch.

Fuck me.

I mean I hated working there anyway, just today I was going to call the temp agency and ask to be reassigned because I really was miserable there, but I still wanted to work until I found something else.

Looking back, I happen to think that they were just looking for a reason to fire me. I've had zero issues with my work, and my general attitude is fine. I think it was just obvious that I wasn't fitting in and (perhaps less so) that I was not happy working there. I didn't scream from the rooftops that I hated it there, obviously, I just don't think people were under the impression that I loved working there. I kept to myself most of the time and didn't really converse with anyone except when necessary.

I don't know if that's the full extent of the reasoning, but being terminated for something so stupid honestly looks like they were just trying to find any reason at all to bring down the axe. Whether it was for something else I inadvertently did/didn't do, or a series of events, or just the fact that I didn't quite fit in, I'll probably never know, but I'd been wary for the past few weeks, feeling like I've been talked about - by the supervisor, too, even, when I've left the room to use the bathroom or when I've been listening to my music - and I'll admit, a certain level of paranoia set in. I hate to be the wearer of the tinfoil hat, but something felt off, and my instincts were right. Maybe they had a keylogger program and they could read every word I typed on here. Lol.

They did me a favor. I was going to call the temp agency and ask to be reassigned anyway, but they're reluctant to try to find an assignment for you if you're already in one, even if you're miserable. I hate temping, but it seems like the most viable way to get hired these days. So while the money situation definitely sucks, I will be happier in the long run not suffering through that job anymore.

jobsites aren't nearly as effective as doing a bit of footwork.

There's no magic bullet to getting a job, but if you want something thatdoesn't suck quite so bad, good employees tend require more effort. A lot of that is just a matter of connections and who you know (just making it known to friends that you're looking for a job can be a big help, never know who knows who who needs what), but a lot of actually submitting your resume to companies will be more effective.

Oh trust me, I have been doing both. I don't have a huge skillset and the fact that I took five years off of working to raise my kids is something that a lot of employers frown upon. I've actually been told by some companies that I'm "unhirable" because I took such a long time off working. Regardless of the fact that I was a stay at home mother trying to put herself through college. Temp agencies, while they typically have the more bullshit jobs, at least are less discerning while I continue to work through trying to get a bite with a regular company.
