Hand Dryers are also very unhygienic considering the amount of bacteria that likes to hide in the air nozzle thingies.

Paper towels are fine and if you use recycled and have a bin for paper towels only it's not really wasting resources. Hand Dryers use less energy overall though they're notorious for hiding bacteria.

So you know how I replaced the battery a few weeks ago?

That wasn't the problem.

I noticed my truck was losing power right around the time I got off the interstate on my way to work this morning. At this point, it's still a good five miles to work, but I figured I have just enough karma saved up to make it to work. I can feel it, though, struggling to accelerate and acting really sluggish. I've had this before, it means my alternator has crapped out.

So I turn off the lights and the radio (what little good that does me, but I wanted every little bit of power to make it to work), and I put down the window because the only way out of my truck is with the window down and I do the ghetto reach around to the outside handle to get out (either that or climb out the passenger side), and I settled on basically praying my way to work. I nearly stalled a few times, and as I pulled into the parking lot at work, just as I attempted to put the window back up (since it seriously looks like it's going to pour - great, wet ass too), the truck died in my parking spot.

Great.

So now I'm at work, but I have no earthly idea how I'm getting home. A jump will not get me all the way, probably not even halfway when it's the alternator that's gone bad - I know this because I've had it happen before. So I called a friend, waiting for him to call me back, but right now, I think I'm going to be stuck here all fucking night. Well, probably not, but I don't quite know how I'm getting home yet. And I still have to get back to work tomorrow.

And on top of this all, I still don't have my W-2s so I can file my taxes and get some money to actually put into the truck. Okay, universe, you've fucked with me enough, can I like catch a fucking break?

I had that happen to a cousin's car though we got her home with the copious use of jumper cables, as well as me getting a rather unpleasant shock because French cars have idiotic and out of the way grounding points. Honestly not sure what else to say.

Yeah it's a 22 mile drive from work to home, I'm not fucking around with re-jumping every mile, especially not in Tampa traffic. People are major dickwads here. I'm gonna have to get it towed.

Thinking I'll get a rental car for tomorrow - $30, tow truck will probably be close to $100, part is $140ish, and the labor (hoping my friend can do it himself) probably another $100 if we have to take it to my friend's mechanic. So uh, there goes the rent.

Hoping like hell it can be fixed quickly, I can take the bus for a few days but it's gonna get old fast.

Asked one of my coworkers who is mostly in the know about pretty much everything, seems there's nowhere that gives discount to Coke employees (I still have a discount on my cell phone from working at my last job, not telling them I don't work there anymore) for things like towing or auto repairs, but it was worth asking anyway. I'll take what I can get.

My grandfather is having heart surgery tomorrow, just got a text from my mother. Trying to find out more details, but I'm hoping it's more "routine" (as much as it can be) than "emergency" and that everything is at least moderately all right.

Okay, got it figured out.

Enterprise (rent a car) is picking me up tonight, and I will drive the rental car to and from work tomorrow, then I will find some kind of solution to get home from the rental car company when I drive it back there tomorrow - I will figure that part out some time between now and then. Probably just gonna have my friend come get me, unless I can return the car to a different location closer to my apartment and just walk back home.

My friend who has constantly worked on my car for me is going to change the alternator, right in the parking lot at work. Why pay to tow it if it can be done right where it sits? I like this line of thinking.

I have to buy the part, no biggie. What I don't know is which part it is, apparently my truck's model has two different types of alternators depending on the fan. Uh, wut? Truck used to be my dad's though so I'll ask if he knows. If not, my friend is also going to try to figure it out by asking the auto parts store, then let me know.

Got an "extended parking permit" for work, so they don't tow my truck out of the parking lot.

And if he can't possibly fix the truck for me for whatever reason, I'll resort to using the bus. Last resort, really, but it's an option, since 22 miles is too far to bike for me right now. (13 is about my upper limit.)

So really the big one is how the hell I'm getting home tomorrow night, though I can probably get my friend to come get me or else just take the damn bus. Either way, another truck problem has come up and been solved with a little help from my friend, my dad, a little creative thinking, and a whole lot of prayer, because to be honest, I wouldn't have even gotten my ass here to work without a little begging directed to the man upstairs.

Can I please go for like a month without a truck-related incident now?

FWIW when I went from being a contractor to an employee, I no longer qualified for my cell phone discount. When I called Sprint and told the customer service rep that I was no longer eligible for that discount, she thanked me for letting them know, then informed me that I could keep the discount!

I'm not saying that you would be so lucky, just saying that stuff like that can happen.

Trust me, he had my LOLs coming a lot more than I had this coming at me. With as much as a dick as he is to me (Like asking him if he had any leave to bring the kids ... no, he didn't have any leave to bring the kids, even when I offered to pay for his trip, but he sure had a ton of leave a week later to go on a cruise with his gf ... trust me, he deserves it). And with my truck acting as it has so much lately, I figured my old Beast could give me a break.

I'm convinced my truck is in love with my friend, the one who fixes him. Because whenever I haven't seen him in a while, my truck breaks down, practically requiring my friend to come over and help me get Beast all fixed up.
