            Not in this day and age. "Wife" just means you have a wife, it doesn't denote gender whereas "Widower" does.

              I volunteer at the Community Center here where the elderly have their meetings/craft shows/bingo/etc and they use the word widow in reference to both male and female partners that have lost their spouse. Maybe its a regional thing but using widow can mean both male and female, imo.

                  My mom called me a little while ago to tell me about a specific news story, and mentioned that the gods were clearly displeased with the person the story was about. I heard my 6 1/2 year old daughter in the background say "Nonni - gods don't really exist."

                  She's learning about folklore in school, and has already figured out on her own that gods are created by people. AWESOME!

                        I've always thought that a widow was a woman who lost a husband and a widower was a husband who lost a wife.

                        I blame American English on this discrepancy, oh and the economy as well.

                          Well, it's settled ... I'm officially a redneck, cause my mama's done gettin' herself locked up in jail.

                          Basically, they go to jail and raise donations to post "bail" to raise money for MDA. It's really kind of a cool idea, though I just want pictures of my mom in jail. Since 1100 miles is a bit far to travel to see it in person. I wish I could donate.
