  • Re: Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread

My insurance jumped from $85 a year for a "storage" policy to $385 a year. No matter where you live something like that is just raping the public and should be illegal.

Was paying close to $700 a year for bare minimum on car insurance here in Hawaii. So you should still consider yourself lucky. Mainland expenses are laughable in comparison except for healthcare. You guys pay so much for healthcare and I'm not sure why. Is everyone and their deceased relatives hitting up the ER that frequently?

Hawaii has health care for everyone who works more than twenty hours a week.

Lots of people on the mainland have no coverage. This is sort of the whole thing that health care reform over the past couple years was about.

Slight correction. Health care is mandatory for everyone who works more than twenty hours a week. However, even if I purchased it myself (let's say my employer didn't want to provide it for me) I would still pay way less than those on the mainland. I pay about $400 a month out of pocket for my two daughters since my workplace had a more expensive (Cadillac?) plan which I still would have to pay and that would be $200 more a month.

So, if you don't mind me asking, you said "for my two daughters", does this mean you have an additional policy for you and your wife? Is the plan paid for by your company or is that also out of your pocket? My husband had insurance with his work and for most of his 30 years, it was totally free and was phenomenal coverage. Of course, all good things must come to an end, and now we have shit insurance and we end up paying for things that aren't covered that comes to thousands of dollars every year. The prescription plan is nice. The amount varies from $5+ but we've never paid more than $30 for a prescription and I take some expensive drugs. Of course, there is no dental or vision anymore, which really stinks because I've always worn glasses.

The quote I stated was per month. I'm paying just about $2000 per year for minimum coverage. I wish I could get away with 700 a year.

Why can't hands grow longer than 11 inches?

I believe the average male human hand is 7 1/2 inches, if I'm remembering my anatomy course right. lol 11 inches would be a huge hand...can you imagine that hand on a midget?

My wife's employer covers her health insurance so we don't pay anything additional. My employer covers my health insurance but I have to pay for dental. I think my wife is getting her dental for free. This means of course that I have to pay health insurance for the two girls and dental insurance for 3 of us. Money seems to be fleeing the bank faster than the spread of H1N1. There's also mortgage, mortgage insurance, condo association fee (which amounts to almost $300 a month ... highway robbery) and so much awesome (/sarcasm) things to pay. Did I also tell you that Hawaii's income tax is twice the rate of the average state income tax? And that it taxes more heavily on the lower income scale and lightly on the higher side?

My apologies, I didn't read your post correctly. If that's the case then that is insane. Where do you live that you need to pay so much money? Does your state have any relief options or an insurance pool that could give you a better group discount?

Ouch! Ya all the fun of being a responsible adult hey? I just like to compare differences between the various areas. I know that I sometimes dig myself a pity hole and crawl into it but it puts it into perspective when you hear other peoples stories. Thanks for sharing. ^^

                            So yesterday....

Housing office, got council tax frozen, and given 20 page form to fill in for housing benefit.

Went to job centre they gave me a phone number and a time to ring them apparently first base is a telephone interview at a set time then they schedule you in for a face to face interview after they have done background checks gone through your bank accounts, spoken to your last employer etc. "New Policy" apparently...

Was treated like piece of dirt and they were very rude asking why I was out of employment "redundancy I say", "you sure you wern't sacked because we will find out they say" "No redundancy heres my P45 (thats the form you get when you finish a job as it has all your tax details, tax paid etc. on but also includes why you left your last job)" "We wont look at it until your called in for an interview they say" >.<

I have worked since the age 16 even through university and have paid taxes since then and I get treated like someone who wants to not work, its sad, humiliating and down right uncalled for.

I was glad my friend invited me over late yesterday afternoon for a chat with her and a needed hug.

Not really, though I'm going to just load up on the drugs and try to zombie my way through work. :/ Hoping that if I keep just drugging myself and doing my best to sleep when I'm not at work that it'll just work its way out of my system.

Well I live in the great state of Florida, seems we have a lot of insurance fraud down here and that's probably part of it. I think another part of it was that I didn't have the vehicle insured for a while, mostly because I just didn't have any money. I was living in the truck for a few weeks three years ago when I first moved here, so I certainly couldn't afford to keep insuring it. So now insurance companies see me as this huge risk, even though for the past 10 months or whatever, I've been paying my premiums religiously with no lapse. I hope after the year is up, they'll see that I'm not planning to be a "no pay" risk and lower me back down.

It is kind of ridiculous that the entire reason people don't get insurance probably 90% of the time is inability to pay for it, and then when you finally manage to insure your car, they rake you over the coals. Well it's no wonder so many people are uninsured. When you think about paying your bills, food, rent, electric all come out being more important when you absolutely HAVE to prioritize and pick and choose, and yeah, car insurance sometimes has to be on the bottom of the list. Should those people maybe not drive? Yeah, but then you live somewhere like here (Tampa) where the mass transit is utter shit - I live about 5ish miles from work, and to get there, I'd have to get up at 4 AM (to start work at 7) and change buses four times -- and it's no wonder people choose to drive anyway.

It sucks. A lot of systems like this are built by utter crooks who have probably never known what it's like to struggle to the point that you pay some of your bills this month, and some of the others the next month. And they don't really understand what it's like. And they wonder why people don't pay ... raise my rates? I'm not sure where the money is going to come from. I don't want to go without insurance (Okay, well, I do, actually, but I do want to be legal also) but it may come to that, if I can't keep up with my more important bills. I've lived without food when money was tight, and I'll be honest, I'd rather live without insurance.

Oops that post may have made me late for work, but fuck it. I'm sick, they won't care. At least I'm even going, so they can suck my dick. Figuratively speaking, of course.
