      Its part of our Building Regulations now to be a certain energy efficience for the building, new laws just passed require a set water consumption per person per household a day. It is set at the moment to 110 Litres/person/day so think for a hosuehold of 4 people thats max use of 440litres of water a day to drink, shower, bath, wash, washing machine dishwasher etc. When you consider an average person showing uses 30 litres of water for a 5 minute shower, a bath holds 80 litres of water etc etc. you can soon see how difficult it is to limit to that (especially with teenagers ) which is why these harvesting systems are being used more and more now.

      The energy efficiency of buildings is really getting tight now and with carbon calculations having to be done on all new buildings (currently we have a B rating for this building (A* is carbon neutral) and once complete this building will issue approx. 108kg/co2/sq m / year . compared to a building of similar type built 10 years ago where the figure would be 324kg/co2/sqm/ year.

          Wow those are some really tight regulations! My daughter alone would have used all the allotted water for ALL of us each day. I am water conscious here, but those would have tried my patience with kids in the house. I'm sure just hubby and I wouldn't have too many problems though. Thanks Jarre, that was really interesting!

            As an extremely hairy guy, I take more than one shower a day, and it takes a long time for me to feel clean even if I've spent 15 min in the shower... I've recently become aware of how much water I'm throwing away but it's something that one just can't help...

              I just like taking long showers. Though I am also fairly fuzzy. Also, it's summer time, and I go jogging and stuff. I have to shower after that!

                How many towels does it take for you to dry off? I dated an extremely hairy guy and I only had 2 towels in my apartment so he'd use my kitchen towels too. Every time he stayed over, I'd have to launder my towels when he left because there wouldn't be a clean one in the house! (FYI, he'd use 4 towels at his house.)

                  wouldn't call myself hairy, but I've got long curly hair, and shit's impossible to dry without an electric hair dryer. I prefer air drying anyway; very little reason for me not to.

                      I guess some people are picky. He had to have one to stand on (even though there was a bath mat), one for the lower half, one for the upper half, and one for his head. I used to laugh though because he had to use small kitchen towels and he was a huge hairy guy...it looked really funny.

                        I just dry off in the shower. It keeps the floor dry! Also, I have a dryer in my bathroom, so to waste even more resources I throw my towel in there for a few minutes when I hop in so I have a fresh warm towel when I get out!

                          Lol Mom, one towel is enough. But I never feel completely dry, I walk around with the towel around my waist and let it dry off completely by itself after thorough toweling o.O
