I can't bring myself to go the the movies anymore, we went to see Where the Wild Things Are, which I enjoyed very much...but 2 tickets, 2 drinks and a popcorn ran me $39, I liked the movie, but I didn't $40 like the movie when I could just wait a few months for it to be on Blu-Ray.

That only brings it down to $20, lol. For the same price I could get it on DVD and not be restricted to one viewing.

Same here. I keep wanting to see things that are in theaters, but I keep thinking about how what is approaching 11 dollars per person is just too much.

I think the reported amount is around 250, but those figures sometimes don't include the marketing and the costs to reshoot scenes and the sort. Marketing is the worst. I think it's ridiculous how some spend more on marketing than what some more typical movies cost to produce. I think The Dark Knight actually had a marketing budget of 150 million. The budget for producing District 9 was 30.

That's true. I hope Avatar gets released in 3-D on blu-ray. (I have Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3-D LOL) It'd be cool if they could release the blu-ray in IMAX 3-D and come with a few pairs of glasses. It'd probably be over $100 but I'd probably buy it just for the epix factor. Just like Beowulf, if they came out with a IMAX edition of Beowulf on Blu-Ray I would've definently bought it. After seeing Beowulf in Imax I refuse to watch it any other way.

Then of course there's the regret that comes from not seeing a movie in theaters. It doesn't take long before you feel like you're the only person who hasn't seen something. Back in elementary school, I was the only person in my class who didn't raise my hand when the gym teacher yelled, "Who here saw Independence Day?!" That was an alienating experience...so to speak...

And there's the bit about what people think is the best way to enjoy watching a movie. Durahansolo says some movies can best be enjoyed in iMAX. I think watching on TV is perfectly fine, but I do not think watching on the computer is any way to enjoy a movie. Some people think you have to see things in theaters to get the real experience of it. And the true film purists think light being projected through celluloid is the one true way to enjoy watching a movie.

I saw Star Trek 2009 in IMAX back when it came out. They showed a trailer for it during another movie, (Watchmen maybe?) and the USS Enterprise looked Humongoid in the scene where Kirk rode his bike up to it. That was the main reason I saw it in IMAX, but on Blu-ray it still looks incredible. I saw Watchmen at the IMAX, but it really didn't add to the flair of the movie since it was hella interesting in its own right.

Well I'm gonna get dragged to see Avatar this weekend probably. I do like to see movies with lots of special effects in the theatre though. I have a nice set up at home but its still not the same. But my popcorn is better! lol

It's nice that my parents live in a backwater town that only charges $3/ticket. Good ol' Midwest cost of living. It's not as amazing as an IMAX experience, but I honestly don't give a damn. Since my dad's idea of spending time with his kids is watching movies, I just end up watching 'em cheap when I go visit. Better than home video, and cheaper for a single ticket than renting from Blockbuster.

God I wish I could get my mother to go to the movies. She bitches about nothing to do but yet when I invite her out she doesn't want to go. The only god damn thing she wants to do is go to the casino.....waste of f**king money....

Went to the movies myself recently. $6 ticket price (well, free, since I know-a-guy), $7 for popcorn, $12 for popcorn with a drink.

Needless to say I didn't eat.

I pack a bottle of water in my purse (thats all I drink anyways) and a granola bar or something to nibble on. Sometimes I pop some popcorn and put a ziploc of that in my bag too. Winter is the best because you can stash stuff in coat pockets too. Though I have a variety of purses in different sizes so that comes in handy. Just bought a Liz Claiborne bag thats as big as a tote bag for petes sake, I could put about 12 bottles of water in that sucker! lol (I think they'd know something was up as I was dragging the bag into the theatre though. lol)

Saw AVATAR and WOW! is the only word I can say. IDK how good the Real 3D version looks, but if you have an IMAX near you, pay the $12 to see it in IMAX. Movie was so sweet, graphics epic, some of the things I couldn't tell if they were real or CG or a combination of both. Movie is over 2 1/2 hours long, but it flows very well. Zoe Saldana is sexy in every movie she plays in, even as a Navi lol. Movie was great and I would see it again!

My show SOLD OUT! I called myself getting there 30 mins early to get a good seat, but I would've had to get there over an hour early since When I got there they had already started seating people, and the line was about 45 people long. I ended up sitting about two seats from the end of a row, and felt bad for the people that came in 2 mins before the show started and sat in a "Neckbreaker Row" the 3rd row from the front. You'd have a terrible crook in your neck from looking up like that .
