Ok, now you're just being condescending.

I had my friends hyping that thing up for years in the most absurd ways, people saying things like they saw their hand go through the television as they turned off their monitor after finishing it. Yes it was a little more abstract than most of its kind but that doesn't mean it deserves all the hype it gets. Friend friend hit the nail on the head when he suggested my distaste for it was because I saw it when I was 20 instead of 14. Not being an uneducated impressionable youngster apparently ruined the experience for me by letting me see Eva for what it was: average. Overall I think Gainax has done better work, both FLCL and Dead Leaves come to mind.

No, I'm speaking facts. If you want moe and humor, go watch Lucky Star. Evangelion was never supposed to have lovable characters, that's an absurd idea.

Maybe you watched the dub, and were especially turned off by it, but either way they aren't supposed to be characters you're rooting for.

I'm pretty sure I watched it up until the episode before the last episode and then I got extremely lost. Did the anime not actually end or did they draw a ending in the movies that were made? I meant to get back to watching the movies but I got caught up in other animes

So, where I work there are maybe 5 mens bathrooms and not very many men work here. The bathroom closest to me has 2 urinals and a stall, the one down the hall has a urinal/stall in one room so it is a 1 person bathroom with a lock, and so are the other 3. I'm in the bathroom down the hall with the lock on it, and this dude jiggles the handle twice which should be enough to tell a door is locked. The same guy then comes back maybe 30 seconds later and jiggles on the handle about 20 times...I mean seriously as big as this place is, you should be able to figure out that there is more than one bathroom. Stop being a lazy arse and ask somebody where it is.

The hype Evangelion has that you're talking about comes from 14 year olds who think it's the second coming of christ. You should be able to weed through that crap.

If you like the type of show Evangelion is pretty good, it could use some work by the end and the movies tried to salvage it but it still needed more. Yes, Gainax ran out of money during the series and had to quickly wrap it up which really screwed the ending of the series but even then it needed some more story work. However, if you couldn't realize without someone telling you that you were pretty much expected to hate every character in the series then you really weren't paying attention. Turning around and saying you didn't like it after that is going to fall on deaf ears. Its like saying you don't like watching lesbian porn because of all the tits, way to miss the whole point.

I can honestly say that Evangelion might be the only anime series I didn't like. It was mostly slow and rarely ever developed the characters or plot. I just kept going along as the same thing over and over. Yes, please explain why the father is a douche a little more. Yes, please show us if the mentor chick is going to hook up with that other guy. Yes, please let us know where this angel thing is going.... the list goes on. BTW, the last 1 (2?) episode was SOOOO messed up.

I'm not going to say there were animes that I hated or didn't like, but I know there were a few I could not seem to finish. Banner of the Stars Series, and Gilgamesh were the only two I can remember trying to rake my eyes out after I got a few episodes into the series. I'm pretty sure I made it to the 2nd season of Banner of the Stars, but I kept falling asleep on the same episode at the same part. I found out the other day that Darker than Black Season 2 is coming out and I haven't finshed season 1 yet (kept falling asleep at the same part same episode.) I might go back and finish those after awhile even though a friend of mine told me he watched Gilgamesh until the end and it was the worst anime he'd ever seen.

Meanwhile I just finished Aquarion and Romeo X Juliet so I decided to take a quick break from anime for a bit and went back to watching Heroes. Because Heroes and 24 came on in the same timeslot, I said I'd wait until the Heroes season was over and then watch all the episodes I hadn't seen. I think I'm on episode 17 now, I started with episode 13 since I'm pretty sure the last one I watched was 11 or 12.

Nothing lives up to hype. If people love it enough for you to call it 'hype', it's not going to live up to that if you're sane.

You don't judge things based on whether you think it lives up to what people said about it, you judge them on your own merits. If I went in to Star Wars expecting the GREATEST MOVIE EVER OF ALL TIME PERIOD, I'd likely be disappointed. If I go in just looking to have a good time, I'd be impressed at the very least. You know what, Mhurron already said this better two hours ago.

And yeah, Evion, being slow is my chief complaint as well, but it suits it well. Plus, a lot of it feels slow because you don't know what to look out for the first time through. Parts of it are almost like a lecture for material that will come up later.

Still, why does it seem like I'm the only person who genuinely enjoyed the last two episodes of Eva?

For that matter, the last two hours of MGS2.

Eva isn't hard to undertand, but the presentation failed to accomplish the transition between the real world and the less tangible concepts (I've never been high though, so probably I don't understand the "trip" because of that.)

And I actually liked the ending of MGS2, just disliked Raiden and his girlfriend all the way through the game. Except for the part where you team up with Snake.

End of Evangelion spoilers

Er. The 'transition' (from individual to collective) was the entire focus of the past two episodes. Unless you mean the transition into that state (without a body, but not yet integrated into the collective consciousness), in which case I think the "Exploding into Tang" scene explained things pretty well. It was a pretty quick (violent, really) process, and obviously people were pretty well out of it by that point.

MGS2 ending spoilers

Raiden was an annoying character, but there weren't many options:

1- You needed a different character. The plot simply would've fallen apart if you didn't spend the plant chapter as someone other than Snake. Maybe they should've had parts of it play as Snake, maybe they should've lengthened the Tanker chapter, maybe they should've had Snake take care of Solidus, but they couldn't use him for the entire game.
2- Raiden needed to be different. If he was just Snake-but-blonde, he would've been a very boring and useless character, an obvious fill-in, which would've been even more annoying than the pansy he was.
3- Raiden needed to be fucked up. Not just for the sake of plot, but because he's a reflection of the player. VR missions and video games being the most obvious link. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if making Raiden an annoying bitch was Kojima's way of snubbing gamers.
4- Raiden needed a fucked up relationship, both for the ending (passing on legacy, federal hall, truly feeling betrayed and lied to, etc. etc., not to mention the entire 'La-li-lu-le-lo controlling EVERYTHING, RIGHT DOWN TO YOUR SEX LIFE' thing.), and to illustrate how fucked up he was. Rose is there to illuminate Jack, it wouldn't make any sense for the Colonel to be bitching about his private life with his girlfriend, and Raiden probably wouldn't have brought it up without prodding (he clearly didn't want to be thinking about her on the mission).

I enjoyed the part when the AI took over, and told Raiden that he saw his girlfriend walking out of some guy's room...And they looked "Intimate." (Probably not exactly what he said but it was funny nontheless.)

All in all, I liked MGS 2. Shooting out lights to make your own hiding spot in the darkness was fun as well.
