Again, wrong. "couple" and "marriage" are not the same thing. Right or wrong, lots people that don't have a problem with gay people existing and having relationships do have a problem with them getting the 'married' label, thanks to religious connotations.

It's not at all unreasonable to assume that people who are ok with gay people existing and living their lives are also ok with said gay people joining the military. And there are people that even oppose homosexuality in its entirety, yet realize that the military cannot afford such horrible PR and discouragement in enlistment as DADT causes.

Oh and the poll was paid for, that is enough to suspect all their findings.

Sure, suspect. Any finding from any source should be suspected, that's healthy.

But saying "someone paid for it, IT'S OBVIOUSLY RIGGED END OF STORY." is just as silly as saying "someone said x, THEREFORE IT IS TRUE END OF STORY."

And "someone paid for this poll, therefore their results are only supported by a small survey from asking people at a very gay bar." goes beyond even completely ignoring the result and into slandering them and claiming that they couldn't possibly be representative of the population as a whole.

Man Goodwill is insane.

A huge hutch for $90. A perfectly good couch for $40. Nice coffee and end tables for $25. DK bongos for $1.

Also, they had a denim couch. a denim couch. Complete with that fashionable faded look.

Encyclopedias, almanacs, readers digest collections, and tons of other books for a dollar. Some of them 50 cents.

On their auction site, I saw insane game bundles; things like a console with a dozen games for $20. Just insane prices.

Do you not understand how polls work, or are you just a bigot?

Seeing as how my BA was in economics with a focus in statistical analysis, I know pretty well how polls work. Did it occur to you that I was being sarcastic?

Gallup sounds familiar. Is it that regional statistical thing? I'll find out on Friday when I go in for my last final, if it's what I"m thinking of then they have an add right outside my classroom.

Looking at what you posted though, 'cause I'm on my home computer and dislike going to strange new untested websites with it...

They can argue about random sample sizes and random sampling distribution, but a sample size of 1,015 people for a nation reported to have 281,421,906 people in it in the 2000 census is a pretty small number. I'm not saying that they should poll everyone, but still my point stands.

Then there are other things to consider. Where were the people they called located? Are there regions that are more anti homosexual than others? What were the assumptions made in the analysis? Did they take into consideration the fact that people are known for lying on phone based polls? And yes, there is a way to take that into account, don't remember what it is anymore though. I would also say to Gallup to show math or GTFO, but maybe they did and you didn't post it, or maybe they didn't, dunno without going there.

Anyways, if you haven't noticed by now I'm more critical with how the results may have been obtained than the results. I have seen far too many blatantly biased surveys and polls from so called reputable sources to take someone at their word that their results are unbiased. They can either show me how they got their findings or hit the road.

I am quite serious when I say that you can prove or disprove anything you want to in statistics based on your assumptions alone.

1- The question, and their statistical certainty, are both located on the link I posted. The most important part, probably, though is:

For results based on these total samples of national adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points.

2- Gallup is probably, if not one of the most trusted, one of the most famous pollsters, at least in the US. You should have no problem visiting their website.
3- If you are going to be sarcastic on the internet, you have to be pretty obvious about it. You should know that by now. Yes, it occurred to me, but right after the perfectly reasonable opinion of being skeptical of statistics, I figured you were being serious. At least, that you actually believe it is an inaccurate poll, which again there is little reason to at this point. And the fact that you're still doubting it shows I was mostly right.


There's really no reason to A- Make such a big fuss over a numerical joke, and B- cast so much doubt on a figure that basically means "sure, let them go to war". A quick google search shows other somewhat-recent polls on DADT range from %60ish to %80ish. just under %70 isn't at all unreasonable.

Picked up Prototype, Killzone 2, and Fallout 3 for PS3 since they were buy 2 get one free at Target. It was funny because when I came in the cashier was opening the shipment boxes for the day so I asked her if they got in prototype since they didnt have any behind the display case and she said "We got the 360 one but it looks like we didn't get any for PS3." She wasn't to the last box so I hung around for a minute and then she said " Oh nevermind I found them." It looked like they only got in about 5 of them LOL but they had plenty for 360. Picked up the games and ran.

Also, on the subject of goodwill insanity. went to one with slightly more insane prices, and because they were moving the store everything was %50 off. Picked up three shirts and two pairs of shorts, plus five puzzles, for $16. They had a huge and awesome chair for $17.50, a great chest of drawers for $15, a big disk for $10. Insane. Insane.

One odd thing, they're not supposed to accept cribs for liability reasons, but I've seen at least two separate cribs at goodwill stores.

Also, damn Club Nintendo. 18 days to find 50 coins for Platinum status. While I'm on the subject, fuck you Target, you ran out of Endless Ocean stock which is EXACTLY WHAT I NEED. And fuck the universe, because you know that if I don't hit Platinum, they're going to have good rewards, and if I do there's a very good chance they will suck.

Looking like Link's Crossbow Training will be the best option, but I really don't want the zapper, and I highly doubt I can sell it off for more than a few dollars.
