You're in a high rise working, and someone tells you that there is a 747 being trailed by a fighter jet flying very near the city. You haven't heard or read anything about this being a photo op (nor has anyone else). I think they were justified in thinking it was or could be happening again. I'm not angry, but I can emphasize with their anger.

ONCE. It happened ONCE. The DoD never lets you know when they're doing maneuvers or photo-ops in your area and they've been going on for decades.

Lets also ignore the probability of those new yorkers getting mugged while 'evacuating' was higher then their chances of getting hit by a plane. Ignore the fact that they have a much higher chance of dying on the way to work every day then they do in an attack by an Islamic terrorist.

They over reacted. No one thought, they acted like an idiotic mob.

/psst, you're going to die of swine flu too. Better go bathe in a vat of Vitamin C and duct tape your house shut.

And I'd say that the events of 9/11, especially for those in NYC, were a bit more affecting than a mugging. Once again, I can understand their overreaction.
