In order to upload anything off Flickr, I have to print screen and crop it in Paint. If you right click a pic in Flickr, (at least in my experience) it copies/saves only one pixel of the picture. It's really annoying. ><

If it weren't such a pain in the ass, I'd hook you up Callisto but really I don't have that kind of patience.

So I went to an Obama rally today.

What an awesome experience. And I mean awesome in the biblical sense, not as a way of saying 'neato'.

Got to downtown. Had no clue which way was which. Drove around, eventually finding where we needed to be by the sidewalk full of people on one side of the road. The crowd could not have been more diverse if it had been set up by an advertising agency. Everything from men with scraggly beards to women with variations on "Mama for Obama"

Eventually found a parking spot a few blocks away.

Walked back to where the line was. It went up Main Street, and curved around the street we had been on. Across from us was the ever friendly Westboro Baptist Church. Now not only does God hate Fags, he also hates Obama, Biden, and YOU! Yes, 'God Hates You'. Wonderful folk, the WBC.

I followed the group heading to the back of the line. It wrapped another couple blocks down the street. On the other side of the street were maybe eight McCain supporters. People passing by almost felt sorry for them.

I got to the next street, and found the line once again curved around it. I walked up it, around a bend in the road, and saw the line kept going. People walked by, handing out pamphlets in support of a local ballot initiative. I noticed all of the parked cars had multiple flyers under their wipers. One of the people handing out the slips of paper was a girl who couldn't have been much older than eight or nine. I noticed that the few bikes that were there were all carelessly locked against posts with chain locks. They had pamphlets stuck between their spokes.

Reaching the top of the hill, the crowd was even larger. The line... went up another hill, before looping back around. Luckily, I was at the end of the line, at least. I noticed a small group building on the other side of the road, between the line up and the line back. They unfurled a banner saying something along the lines of "NO HOPE FOR CHANGE ON CAPITAL HILL". As soon as I had finished reading it, they started yelling "There ain't no power like the power of the people, 'cause the power of the people don't stop; say what!" and some other signs saying something about socialism and whatnot. Hilariously stereotypical, they all looked like they were in college. The WBC and Communists. That would be two groups I wasn't expecting to see today.

After a long time waiting in line, I finally got in. After pausing for the pledge, I worked my way into the crowd during the national anthem. There was a prayer. Obviously I don't care for it much, as an atheist, but I was surprised how few people had their heads bowed. And when I looked even more closely, about half of them had their eyes fixated on a camera or cell phone. Also of note, part of the prayer was something along the lines of "And protect Barack Obama... AND PROTECT JOHN MCCAIN,". I have to wonder how much of that was a jab. There were a long series of speakers basically saying 'You vote, you get other people to vote, and vote democratic. FOR EVERYTHING!'. After awhile, to great applause, Obama (presumably after coming out on stage; I could not see) started speaking. I had heard most of it before, slightly different in the specifics, but generally the same.

My feet aching became too much, but I still stood and listened, until I become lightheaded and woozy enough to decide to work my way back out of the crowd (I was surprised at how deep I had gotten in, or at least how much of a crowd had built up behind me) and sit down. After a few more attempts to try to find a place where I could view the stage, some music had started playing (indicating the end of his speech, which at that point I had practically tuned out to try to get through the crowd, not that it would've been easy to hear anyway) indicating it was over.

Long story short, I left with everyone else and might possibly have seen him in his motorcade for a split second but my vision was blurry and I'm still exhausted and I'll have photos and more details tomorrow or sometime this week most likely.

Estimates right now are 75,000 people turn out, and I don't doubt it for a second. I believe that would make it the largest crowd I've ever been in or seen in my life. The amount and variety of people was incredible.

Keep in mind that the pictures probably only represent about 1/5th of what I saw. 75,000 people is a lot of people.
