Actually, I'm a maintenance mechanic at a production facility. When I'm not changing over tooling for a different production run, I'm telling operators that machines don't actually run in the manner that they think they run, and that if they do it our way, ( i.e., as per SOP) they will work just fine. I spend most of my actual work time playing with thickness gauge sensors. Every once in a while something actually breaks or otherwise fails to operate properly and I end up spending my entire shift on it. Other than that, my job is to keep our shop clean and not be a penis to people while I wait for equipment to fail. ...so basically, I get a LOT of time to sit in front of the computer.


Thanks for putting up suggestions everybody. The effort is appreciated. Unfortunately, after seeing what everybody else is reading and having noted that I generally read just about the same things, I've decided that I'm going to get some online college courses out of the way. I have a cushy job, so this would be a good time to get that done. I make pretty decent money doing what I'm doing, but I also know what paygrade some of our junior engineers are. It sickens me to think that I'm not making that kind of money.

Narragansett Beer is my new favorite beer.

Brewed in upstate NY, but more or less a local beer for New England, specifically Rhode Island.

A 6 pack (16oz. cans) costs $5. It tastes great (unlike any beer I've ever had, and in this college town, that's everything from Rolling Rocks to Guiness). I open a pack, and turn on Guitar Hero, and by the time I'm on my 4th, I'm too drunk to play Slow ride on Medium.

I think Corona is highly overrated. Sure, it tastes fine, but Narragansett just tastes better. Even people who hate beer like Narragansett.

My roomate actually is majoring in Wine and Beverages, and is going to Germany for an internship, he's the one that introduced it to me, and I swear by his opinion on liquors.

Well overrated != piss now does it. By your own admission it tastes fine, and on a hot day it is a more refreshing drink then heavier beers like a stout or porter.

On the topic of Guiness, which is a favorite of mine, you have to make sure you're drinking the Guiness actually made in Ireland, not the licensed crap made by Labatt in Canada. The stuff made in Canada is of such poor quality that if you actually like drinking good beers, you will not be able to finnish a bottle of it.

Unfortunately, I live in a state that regulates what beer, wine and spirits are sold, so my easy access to microbrewed or imported beer is limited far more then I would like (but there are a lot of local wineries) but a new store recently opened that carries this Oatmeal Stout that really was quite good.

I also found this which I also enjoyed.

Something about local beers just makes them delicious. Being that it's made in Rochester, I hope I can get 'Gansett from NYC..

At any rate, I don't like Corona either. The only Mexican beer I typically drink is Dos Equis Amber, although I typically drink either Smithwick's, Guinness, locally brewed stuff, or Old Style(fuck off, I'm from Chicago, Old Style is the best cheap beer ever).

To elaborate on what Ellipses said, it's important that when you lie you don't try to weave your current lie together with all the other lies you've told in the past. Don't do the "tangled web" thing. Not only is it entirely too much effort, but eventually you're going to mess up and make an inconsistency, or she'll find evidence that contradicts the whole alternate reality you've been building and the whole thing comes down like a house of cards. She'll reject everything you've ever said out of hand and start building her own version of the entire history of your relationship, and guaranteed, you will not like your place in it.

Instead, start inconsistent and stay that way. Start off with some obvious lies intoned to sound like teasing, then reinforce that foundation with half-truths and honest truths made to sound like lies. When you've got her at the point where she's never sure if you're telling the truth or not or whether she should laugh or be angry, then you've basically got carte blanche to lie about whatever you want, however you want, because anything you say will be inconsistent with something else you said that she suspects is a lie, making her wonder if the new lie is the truth. If you get into trouble, you've got this whole primordial pool of possible truths that you and she can pick through to construct a worldview that will make your most recent bullshit sound downright virtuous in the context of something else that never happened.

And when that happens, when you're at the point that she's actively helping you to lie to her, you know you're in a happy, lifelong relationship.

Nah. Understanding a point of view and adopting it aren't the same thing. Just because you can conceive of such treachery and skullduggery doesn't mean you're going to be implementing it everywhere you go.

Hooray for stupid corporate garbage. My department is pretty behind at the moment because we had this really weird spike in work volume the last 3 weeks...and I can't do any work because I have to spend most of the day doing online 'training'...by which I mean doing some stupid click-your-way-through presentation on the company code of ethics and other crap.

It also says I'm overdue for navigation training on our new system that we implemented in March...I was the one that taught my co-workers how to use most features of the system, yet I'm still required to take a beginners navigation course on it nearly 4 months after launch.

And here I was planning on actually working and not playing online today, lol.
