Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread
Re: Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread
I, like Aksannyi, also laughed at Murphie's new avatar. Welcome to your 30's?
Also, mandatory derail: I said I would recreate a sketch I did one time when I was bored, and so I did.
Here's the reproduction of the original doodle
Not exactly anything to be proud of (if I were a proud person to begin with), and I know I used a color fairly difficult to see, so after I saved that one I went and made a noted copy.
Again, without sans notes
1 - Here, I experimented with the rabbit ear positions, when I saw that the cross-sections of the two positions made a more fox-like ear. Totally accidental discovery.
2 - I did this on lined notebook paper. Funny story with that also, is that I unintentionally drew the circle for the head in such a way that the lines on the paper divided it horizontally in to eighths, effectively rendering themselves as automatic guidelines for the eyes (and, if I bothered adding one, a nose). I sort of re-added a few of the guidelines here to re-create that effect.
3 - A really minor thing, and I don't know why I bothered noting it. Basically, it was an experiment to see whether the ear should join the head halfway down, or slightly higher than that. Halfway down seemed neater, at least to me.
4 - Of course, a bust just seems incomplete without a neck. I usually draw a concave curve for the neck (as indicated by the middle curve circled), but I wondered what would happen if I drew convex curves for the neck. I did two: a first set that intersected two points on my concave curve, and another set that ran with a point tangent to the concave curve. The tangent curves seemed just wrong, unless I was going for some kind of bubbly-quasi-chibi sort of thing, but the other two seemed okay.

You can be old with me Murphie, I am what you call "pushing thirty."
I generally refuse to give my actual age (as is customary for women, anyway) so that's as much information as you get.
I do, however, live with two 19 year olds and a 21 year old in college dorms since my mother threw me out. Nothing like living with people who aren't even old enough to drink to make me feel like the oldest fucking fart on the planet.

Heck, even when I was only 24, the 18-19 year olds that frequented the bar I worked at made me feel old (they couldn't drink, but they still came to dance and take up my time ordering sodas).
I can't imagine how they would make me feel now. Oh wait, I can, since I am in class with them every day.

Ahh, they have such a different perspective on life, too.
In American Lit the other day our instructor was talking about how statistically, 60% of college students believe they will be millionaires. Sixty percent!
I laughed so fucking hard at that, because I know how the real world works. You have kids, you get married, and your money is gone before you even get it half the damn time. Yet 60% of the college demographic (roughly 18-22) believes they will be millionaires. God, that gave me such a hearty laugh.

I am very glad that the drinking age is the way it is in this country. I remember what I was like at 18, and 18 + drunk = BAD.
It seems ridiculous, but at 21 there is at least some sort of shift in the way people act/mature/think that seems to allow for a more mature approach to drinking.

I'd be willing to bet this is because you transition from the "LOL I'M BREAKING THE LAW BOOZE IS FUN" thinking to the "meh, it's legal, now it's just a buzz." more than anything that age has to do with it.
